CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to use evidence to support our inferences about what motivates a character.

VOCABULARY

Inference:

making an inference simply means to use what you already know to make a guess about something that you don't know because things aren't always told to you directly

Character motivation:

the reason for a character's actions and behaviours in a story.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Students note down what characters think, say and do in their fiction texts to determine what they are doing, what kind of character they are and why they acted the way they did.

Students can think of well known stories and characters and list their motivations.
