 Create It Incursion

On Monday 9 October the year 3 students had an incursion made by Mini Boss, and it was called ‘Create It.’ Half of 3B came in to 3A and the other half went into 3C. 

3C and half of 3B had the incursion first. We walked into the incursion and Twig and Danny the helpers were there. We sat down in our groups ready to play a warmup game.

All of the groups lined up and the back person had to go with Danny so he could tell them a shape. Then, they drew the shape on the person in front of them and so on until you got to the front person. The front person drew the shape that they felt on their back onto a piece of paper.

After a few rounds of the game, we got into the first challenge. The first challenge was to create a marble maze. In your group you had to brainstorm ideas of what you want your marble run to look like. Then, you got your supplies from a bag, we were all shocked by how little supplies we got! It was a big challenge to try and make a marble run with such little supplies, but we managed to do it.

Then we gallery walked around the room and looked at every group marble run.  Two people stayed at the marble run and explained how it worked. After a few minutes we sat down on the floor to play some fun games and explain our dream boat. Twig’s dream boat was made out of corn chips, the oars were made of spaghetti and the sail was a lettuce leaf. 

Then we had to complete the second challenge. The mayor of Iggleboddledingledan said we need to make robots to help the people smile because they have all forgotten how to have fun. This was the hardest with teamwork, but we pushed through. We came up with good creations and we all had fun.

We all held up our robots so people could see our designs. The last activity of the day was to act out a machine using everyone in your group some people were ovens, toasters, washing machines and arcade games. Then we acted our machine out and people tried to guess what the groups were acting out. The bell went for recess.

Throughout the incursion we had to reflect on our behaviour and talk about ways we could improve our communication and teamwork. By the final activity we had improved our collaborative skills. 

After we had recess 3A and the other half of 3B did the incursion at 12:00pm they did the exact same and all the year 3 students really enjoyed it and were grateful that we were able do this incursion. Thankyou Mini boss!

Arcade Games

At the end of term 3, the teachers announced that we will be making arcade games for the Junior School to play. We were all so excited and ready to build but first we had to get our supplies. We had to bring our materials from home, to school, for our arcades. 

The first day of term four was just boxes, boxes, boxes everywhere. Before we started building, we had to learn about the design process. The design process is defining, investigating, generating, planning and managing, producing, evaluating and communicating. 

After we learnt about the design process, we had to generate our ideas and share them with a partner choosing the best idea to create with the materials we had. After all of that we FINALLY got into the fun bit! BUILDING!

We had four hours in total to make our arcade game. Our classroom was a huge mess, but it was very exciting and fun. There were lots of basketball games, ring tosses, ball throwing games and much, much more. 

Soon after we finished building our arcades, we started on the communication part of the design process. We had to create our posters for the arcade games. The posters had to POP and had to be super colourful!

Lots of kids made rainbow posters but some kids stuck with one colour. After that we had to print instructions for our arcade game. Our instructions included the aim of the game, how to play and what you needed to play, for example, a ball. 

Our Arcade will be open for business on Thursday the 12 October for the Prep, Year One and Year Two students.
