New Unit of Inquiry - Sharing the Planet
The Preps have been very excited to start their final Unit of Inquiry for the year - Sharing the Planet. In this Unit, we will be considering human use of the ocean, the impact humans have on sea creatures and their habitats and our responsibility to the environment. Concepts such as causation and responsibility will be explored as well as ideas of impact, consequences and initiative,
Throughout the term, the Preps will explore the impact they have on Earth and ocean life. They ponder actions we take every day which can have a negative impact on the ocean habitat, like littering.
The Preps will also consider small, everyday changes we can make to have a positive impact on our environment, such as recycling and using reusable cups and straws.
Later in the term we will visit SeaLife Melbourne Aquarium where we will learn all about the many different animals which live in the sea, with a focus on conservation and keeping marine life safe.
The Preps did a wonderful job of thinking of and writing down three 'wonderings' or questions they have about our new Unit. The Preps came up with all sorts of excellent questions such as, "I wonder why do coral not sting clown fish?", "I wonder how dolphins jump?" and "I wonder why jellyfish glow?". Well done Preps!
SMART Spelling
The Preps have been continuing to expand their spelling knowledge with Michelle Hutchison's fantastic SMART Spelling lessons.
Our weekly words have become longer with multiple sounds in each word! This week's word, 'teacher', has 4 sounds, 7 letters and 3 digraphs. A digraph is when two letters work together to make one sound.
We are so proud of how much the Preps have learnt this year and how far they have come with their spelling!
