Principal's Report

Credit To Our School

I would like to share with you an email that I received on Monday.

Dear principal and year Six staff,

We thought you would like to hear about our recent encounter with 10 of your students whilst travelling from the city on the Sandringham train on Sunday afternoon.

We were very impressed at their excellent behaviour and their confidence in engaging us in conversation and their politeness.

We learnt quite a bit about their sporting outing, their interests and their ideas.

They were a credit to their parents and to the school.

It was so nice to see such enthusiastic youngsters. We would be grateful to you if this could be passed on to the boys concerned.

Students like you James, Henry, Kian, Hobie, Toby, Harry, Nick, Liam, Zach & Jasper are a credit to BNPS!

 AFL Womens St Kilda Players

4 AFLW St Kilda players visited BNPS yesterday at lunch time and organised a longest kick competition on the oval for the students.

The students absolutely loved the competition. Thankyou Kirsty Hall for organising this for our students.

Eyecare Program

The Student Eyecare Program commenced on Monday 2 October continuing through to 26 October. We have over 200 students signed up!

Elissa the Optometrist is onsite during school hours to provide students with a free comprehensive eye examination that is covered through Medicare Australia.

1 in 6 students have eye conditions that go undetected. This is due to the high level of visual demand on their eyes from books, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Every student will receive a full report about their eye health and a prescription will be provided if glasses are required. The prescription can be taken to any optical store to get the glasses made.

Referendum BBQ & Cake Stall

BNPS will have a polling booth at our school for the upcoming Referendum on Saturday 14 October 2023.

The Parents & Friends Committee will run a BBQ and a Cake Stall to raise funds for our school.

We will need volunteers to help on the day – if you are free to help, please sign up here https://volunteersignup.org/HCWAQ

If you can’t help on the day maybe, you could get baking.  Please drop baked goods (please nothing that requires refrigeration) to the staffroom on Friday 13 October from 3pm.

Please ensure your baked goods are packaged for sale (packing bags, ribbons and cellophane will be available if needed) and include an ingredient list for each package (attached).

Colour Run

Only 19 more days until the Colour Run as well as the Teacher Sliming activity at the conclusion of the fun filled afternoon.

Hopefully the slime is a different colour than last year as I still can’t get the green out of my shoes!

Each Student who raises $80 or more will go into the draw to slime a teacher or myself.

Win A Razor Electric Scooter

Each student who raises $100 or more will go into the draw to win a Razor Electric Scooter.

Please try and get your sponsors for this very special school fundraiser.

District Athletics

I would like to say congratulations to our students that represented our school at the District Athletics at Duncan McKinnon Reserve last Friday.

Please see the PE page for a report and lots of photos of the day.

Youth Mental health

You will have noticed a sign on our school fence detailing a new initiative in support of Youth Mental Health.

The Rotary Clubs of Beaumaris, Brighton, North Brighton and Hampton are holding a Big Serve Tennis Day on the 29 October using oversized racquets to raise funds for Youth Mental Health.  No entry fee is required, just a donation. All funds raised will be used to support Youth Mental Health Programs.

We are also doing our bit to support mental health.  You will have received information on Compass last week where we encouraged our students to wear a coloured Tee Shirt that represents a colour in nature that they find calming, yesterday.

We aim to produce a picture mosaic of our students in their calming colours.

Term 4 - Camping Term

Year 5 Camp

Excitement is mounting with our Year 5 students as they prepare to head to camp in 2 weeks' time.

The students and their teachers will leave for Camp at The Summit on Monday 23 October and will return to school on Wednesday 25 October.   The structured Year 5 camp activities are rock climbing, flying fox, ladder climb, bush challenge, laser skirmish and the inflatable obstacle course. Weather permitting the students may have a go on the waterslide if it is operating.

Along with these activities, students also do team building and group initiative activities, designed to improve problem solving and communication skills.

Year 4 & Year 6 Camp

Our Year 4 students will head to Golden Valley Adventure Camp on 8 November and our Year 6 students head to Phillip Island on 13 November for their final primary school camp.

Swimming Program for Prep and Year 1 students

The swimming program for the students in Prep and Year 1 will commence Monday 16 October. This program will be held at Swimfit, Tulip Street Sandringham.  The Preps will have a 6-day program running on Monday 16, Wednesday 18 and Friday 20 of week 3 and Monday and Thursday of week 4.

Year 1 students will have a 9-day program commencing on Monday 16 until Thursday 26 inclusive.

Bike Education

The Year 4 students completed their Bike Ed course on Monday and Tuesday this week. The course is designed for students to practice the many different skills relating to road safety awareness, with specifically designed activities that will translate when they are riding on the roads.

Beaumaris Secondary College Inaugural Year 12 Graduation

It was only 7 years ago that the Beaumaris Secondary College was a building site.  The school’s Principal, Assistant Principal and Business Manager joined our staff as they commenced the planning and organisation of the new high school.

The Leadership Team were in fact homeless as they had no school to work at, so our school community provided them with a base to work from.

The school's founding students are now preparing for their final weeks of secondary school.

A Year 12 inaugural Year 12 Graduation is to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground Members dining Room on Friday 13 October.

A very large percentage of this Year 12 cohort are ex-Beaumaris North primary students, and we wish them, as well as all other ex-students about to commence their final exams, the very best of luck.

We always look forward to hearing about the paths our ex-students embark on as we believe we have contributed to their journey.

Prep Transition

On Wednesday, we held our second last Prep transition for our 2024 Prep students. The next Prep Orientation Morning is Wednesday 6 December introducing them to their teacher and classroom for 2024.

Thank you Cathryn Verlaan & Rachel Wilson for organising and running a morning tea for our new parents.

Product Safety Recall

Final call for USB cables to be returned to the office.

As posted on 19 September we received communication from one of the Father’s Day stall suppliers that a product we sold at the stall (the LED Flashlight Rechargeable) this year has a fault and they have issued a PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL. The LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch with strap (Product) is defective.

So far we have had only 15 of the 50 returned to the school.

Planning for 2024

We are currently planning for the 2024 school year.  In coming weeks our 2024 booklists and parent payment documentation will be distributed to each of our families, as well as planning the class structure in 2024.

If your child will not be returning in 2024, could you please notify our office as soon as possible.
