Year 3/4 Term 4 Overview
Term 4 Year 3/4 Overview
Welcome back to Term 4!
Wow this year has flown. It has been such a pleasure seeing your child continually grow in their learning, socially and emotionally. This term promises to be just as busy as the previous three with lots of exciting activities, events and learning to occur. Year 3 students will be participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the coming weeks and we look forward to sharing their faith journey with them.
We also have swimming coming up in weeks 3 and 4 for all students.
Religious Education
This term we will be exploring the relationship between decision making and reconciliation and how our actions have a direct impact on others. With our Year 3 students celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we will be focusing on forgiveness and the key spiritual aspect of reconciliation. This will include learning the Act of Contrition, where they will reflect on times where they weren’t always a Jesus person and could have made better choices.
Mathematics
The students will continue to experiment with their ability to solve complex mathematical problems and develop their ability to explain their reasoning when working through problems. This term we will be focusing on Fractions, Addition and Subtraction strategies, Number Talks, Perimeter and Area as well as developing their understanding of Time.
Students will also complete their PAT-Maths testing and we will continue to use various asessment tasks to help guide the direction of our learning and support our students' needs.
Literacy
Students will continue to develop their literal and inferential comprehension skills through reciprocal reading groups reading the ‘One and Only Ivan’. Students will be writing procedural texts and focus on the author Claire Saxby and the literary skills she uses in her writing to develop her characters and engage the audience.
Social & Emotional Learning:
In SEL, we are learning about the importance of being inclusive of others and the impacts our actions have on our relationships. Students will also explore both positive and negative relationships and how possible strategies to support or enhance relationships.
Inquiry:
This term we will be focusing on Australian Democracy with a strong focus on exploring a variety of ways that we can become active citizens and contribute to the development of our community. They will be working in groups to focus on an area of the local government that they feel needs to be improved and create a think tank with different ways in which they can develop this area.
Physical Education:
This term students will be participating in a variety of team based games to develop their understanding of teamwork and enjoyment. Students will also continue to learn about their personal strengths in games and how they can use their strengths to support and guide their peers. Hitting and catching will be a major skill focus for this term and students will be given several opportunities in a variety of games to develop these skills.
Homework:
Homework will be sent home in Week 2 and will follow a similar structure to the previous term. Students will have compulsory activities they will need to complete over a weekly time frame. Homework will be sent home usually on alternative weeks. If your child is struggling to attempt their homework on their own, please speak to their class teacher.
