Year 4Composing Using Technology And Found Sound

During term 3, the year 4 Music classes have been enjoying using technology to compose original songs. They explored the Google Chrome Music Lab experiments, in particular, ‘Song Maker’.

Students created lyrics about an Explorer, with each member of the group giving different information about their explorer and used ‘Song Maker’ to bring their lyrics alive.

‘Song Maker’ has coloured sections that represent each different pitch. They matched notes to the lyrics, and then chords of 2 or more notes.

Percussion parts came next, and finally, they added a found sound. They used the found sound live when they presented their whole composition to the class. A found sound can be anything at all!

A famous example is by Finneas. He recorded the sound of the pedestrian crossing when visiting Australia, and included it in one of Billie Irish’s (his sister) songs. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, he explained that musicians have so many digital resources available for creating songs, that he likes to have something unique hidden in his songs.

The students did a great job on this task!

Please enjoy the links, images and videos of their compositions!
