Holy Cross happenings

Holy Cross Feast Day

On Thursday, our school celebrated the Feast of the Holy Cross. We started the day with a prayer gathering, which was presented by our year 5 children. They reminded us of all the wonderful things that our school offers the families in our community. We then returned to our classrooms, where we learnt more about the Saints that represent our four houses here at Holy Cross. We created shamrocks, wove the Cross of St Brigid and wrote about how we live our lives to be more like St Ambrose and St Mary MacKillop.

Over the past two weeks, the families of Holy Cross have been generously donating baby products, groceries and toiletries to the Gisborne Foodbank.  We were overwhelmed with your generosity!  Together, children created packages with messages of positivity for those in need.  There were so many bags, that Lynn from the Foodbank had to come back a second time to fill up her car!

A big thank you also goes out to Coles, Gisborne for donating 400 bags - amazing!

What an incredible community we have - thank you all.

5/6 Camp

The 5/6 children from Holy Cross Primary School went on camp to Phillip Island last Wednesday to Friday. Some of the events we did were the Giant Swing, Twin Flying Fox, and Canoeing.

The classes went on a beach walk which included splashing in the water with our feet and a sand castle building competition.

Another activity we did was to go and see the penguins. They were all so cute and tiny.

One of the funniest moments was when some staff went on the giant swing. It was really funny seeing them yell and scream! There were also scary moments when we were on the Twin Flying Fox with our partner 250m downhill; it was awesome!

The food was also fantastic with our extraordinary head chef cooking many excellent meals for our stomachs. One of the most enjoyable moments was when the staff spoiled us with a stop at the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory on the way home. We are all so thankful to our staff from Holy Cross for taking us to this wonderful island.

Pancake Cook-Off

As we walked in, the excitement was building. We could see the ingredients lined up. Then we sat in our team’s.

We thought of our team names then gathered up our ingredients and listened to the safety instructions.

We had to read the instructions on the recipe carefully halving the ingredients for batter. Then we started to mix the ingredients then we got to frying.

We had to make sure that we flipped it at the right time. Then we had to put it on a plate and added the toppings.

Our pancakes tasted delicious they were full of flavour and with beautiful texture. They were very sweet.

The teachers tasted our pancakes.

Our Principal Aoife and our Year 4 teacher Sian were the judges for the event.

The teams were marked out of 5 for cleaning, taste, teamwork and overall cooperation.

There was a draw between two teams so we had a second cook-off the very next day!

Overall it was a super, fun experience and we all had a blast.

We would like to thank all of the staff for organising the event for us.

Holy Cross Disco

This Thursday Holy Cross held a school disco. It was an amazing event and everyone loved it! There were glow sticks, food, drinks and a host from Bop Till You Drop!

Our favourite part was when our host put the song Waka Waka on and everyone loved it and started dancing with the music all at the same time!

Our eardrums were sizzling and everyone had there hands in the air like they just didn’t care. Our feet were stomping like a stampede of elephants. The whole thing was awesome.

Another favorite moment was when everyone tried to do the bicycle move together. This was also during the Waka Waka dance!

Thank you to the PFA for organising this amazing event for us.
