Year Seven

Maths

As we enter the final term of this year, we are thrilled to share with you that Year Seven Students will be studying engaging topics of Data Interpretation and Cartesian Planes.

In the first part of Term Four, Students will delve into the world of Data representation and Interpretation. In this module, Students will learn fundamental skills to collect, organise and interpret data. They will learn about various types of data, including categorical and numerical, and how to create and interpret data from graphs, stem and leaf plots and dot plots. By studying data interpretation, students will develop critical skills, helping them to make informed decisions based on real-world information.

In the latter part of Term Four, Year Seven Students will be introduced to Cartesian Planes. This concept lays the foundation for understanding the coordinate system and graphing. Understanding cartesian planes is crucial not only in mathematics but also in various other fields, from science to engineering. It fosters problem-solving abilities and reinforces spatial reasoning.

Students are encouraged to continue interpreting data at home to complement classroom learning. We are looking forward to a fantastic Term of mathematics exploration.

Humanities

Term Four Humanities has had a successful start with Students selecting an ancient civilisation to study for our Historical unit.

As we develop the understanding of the historical skills and concepts while studying ancient Egypt, Students will apply these to their selection of-

  • ancient China
  • ancient India
  • ancient Greece, or
  • ancient Rome

It is already making for great discussion points about the different systems, structures, and processes in place in each civilisation.

Students have already investigated the concept of chronology by creating a timeline of key people and events, and are delving into research of significant individuals of their society that had an impact on their civilisation and the potential impact and adaptations that were facilitated to today's world.

In League In Harmony

"With a focus on respect, responsibility and inclusiveness, the NRL's 'In League In Harmony' program aims to promote social cohesion by addressing issues such as social disengagement, racism, gender inequality and bullying; empowering youth to be agents of change for a more cohesive society."

This week our students had their first 'In League, In Harmony' clinic with Pauline Poloai. Twenty of our Year Seven students were nominated to join the program and it was incredible to see their engagement, enthusiasm and respect for each other.

Students worked through several drills which focused on teamwork and hand-eye coordination. They then broke into teams and competed against each other in a game of Touch Rugby.

They will complete another five sessions this term and then head out to the Harmony Festival Gala Day on 29th November, where they will interact with schools from across Melbourne.

Wood Technology

This Term, Year Seven Wood Technology students have been exploring health and safety in the Wood Technology room. Year Seven students have been learning to identify hazards and their potential risks and how to prevent injury to ourselves and others. Student have also learned the Safe Operating Procedures and the steps needed to be taken when using wood working tools such as the Tenon Saw and Bevelled Edge Chisel safely.

In the coming weeks, students are beginning the process of constructing their products for the Term, the Cerberus Lamp. Students will use the Design Process to plan, produce and evaluate their products and practice their newfound wood working skills.
