Art News

We're excited to shine a spotlight on our Year 4 students' remarkable artistic endeavours as they ventured into the world of Pablo Picasso and his iconic Cubist style of artwork. During Semester 1, our talented Year 4 artists have been busy creating their own Picasso-inspired portraits that truly reflect the spirit of cubism.

Exploring Cubism and Bright Pastels: The journey began with an exploration of Cubism, the ground breaking art movement that redefined the way we see the world. Students learned about Picasso's revolutionary approach to capturing the human form through fractured shapes and vibrant colours. They embraced this unique style by diving into a sea of bright pastel colours, adding a contemporary twist to their masterpieces.

Roll-a-Picasso Game: To ignite their creative spark, our Year 4 students engaged in an exciting game called "Roll-a-Picasso." This innovative exercise generated imaginative ideas for drawing different facial features. It encouraged them to think beyond conventional norms and embrace the fragmented beauty of Cubism. The game not only made learning fun but also fostered originality in their artistic expressions.

Collage Skills and Asymmetrical Faces: As our budding artists delved deeper into the world of Cubism, they honed their collage skills. They experimented with various types of papers, textures, and cutting techniques to create asymmetrical faces that mirrored Picasso's unique approach to portraiture. The emphasis on asymmetry added an element of surprise to their creations, making each piece a distinctive work of art.

Layering and Depth: Another essential element of the collage process was layering. Students explored the possibilities of layering different materials, creating depth and adding complexity to their artworks. The interplay of textures and colours added an extra dimension to their pieces, enhancing the Cubist effect.

The Dazzling Display: The culmination of their hard work and creative exploration is a dazzling array of brightly coloured Picasso-inspired Cubist portraits. These artworks are now beautifully on display in the front office foyer. We invite all members of the Ormond Primary School community to come and appreciate the talent and creativity of our Year 4 students. Don't miss the opportunity to witness the future Picassos of our school. These artworks serve as a vibrant reminder of the endless possibilities within the world of art and the boundless creativity that our students possess.

Thank you for your continued support in nurturing our students' artistic talents. We look forward to sharing more exciting art projects with you in the future!
