Meet Our Future Alumni!

By Soguech Som

As the end of the school year is fast approaching, a few Year 12s were asked to share their experience at high school as well as where they see themselves in the future.

1) What do you want to do in the future?

Meychea: I’m still undecided about what I want to do in the future but possibly becoming a teacher whilst also owning a business.

Arthur: I wanna be an engineer or a doctor, I don’t really mind.

Aalysha: I’d like to pursue a course in university and go on to become a cyber security analyst.

Josh: Work in the medical field, involving machinery such as operating the x-ray machines.

2) What has been your favourite memory in Keysborough?

Meychea: Probably either Year 8 camp or Year 11 psychology class which was undoubtedly the most enjoyable class throughout my 5 years of being here.

Arthur: Year 12 Formal! It was really fun!

Aalysha: Coming to school everyday, seeing my friends and knowing we are all in the same boat, constantly studying for SACs, stressing about the future and worrying if we passed.

Josh: Colour Run!

3) What is your favourite thing about the school/what will you miss most about the school?

Meychea: The fun events every term, access to wellbeing, supportive and fun teachers!

Arthur: The support the teachers give when you ask for it. I’ll also (obviously) miss being around close friends every day.

Aalysha: Study periods! It was time away from class but also time to be in your own zone and study even when it was filled with chatter and laughter.

Josh: My Friends and Teachers!

4) Do you have any advice for the upcoming Year 12s?

Meychea: Study by doing lots of practice SACs!

Arthur: Don’t study harder, but to study consistently and complete homework as early as possible. Another piece of advice is to study with friends, and make friends who want to study with you.

Aalysha: It is important to acknowledge that numbers on a piece of paper do not determine what you know or what you are capable of. It isn’t a race and you are allowed to go at your own pace, keeping in mind that it's just as important to stay on top of your work and maintain your work ethic and persistence. Every stage of school offers challenges and it will only get more tough, however with hard work comes good results.

Josh: Maintain your balanced lifestyle. Prioritise your tasks or workloads, engage in hobbies and spend time with other people. Most importantly, take regular breaks and sleep well.

5) What was the best advice you were given?

Meychea: It’s okay to rest and not do anything on some days, otherwise you’ll burn out.

Arthur: Focus on quality of study, not quantity, something teachers rarely tell you to.

Aalysha: It's okay to not know what you want in life. Time can only tell so it’s okay to feel lost.

Josh: Live life to the fullest!

6) What has been the highlight of your Year 12?

Meychea: Formal! It was beautifully organised and enjoyable.

Arthur: Year 12 Formal! I also really loved Pyjama Day’s pillow fighting.

Aalysha: Colour Run! As house captain, it was fun to build the balloon arches with my other peers and it was the first official event we successfully held. Although the weather changes hindered the final results of the arches, the overall day was a success as everyone participated and enjoyed the event.

Josh: Colour Run! I enjoyed us running around the loops, getting sprayed with other colours.

7) Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Meychea: Rich and travelling the world!

Arthur: Working as an engineer, or maybe a doctor, or maybe even a missionary volunteering overseas. We’ll see I guess 😆

Aalysha: I can see myself having established a career in the cyber security field. I also hope that I would have travelled parts of the world by then and maybe have a house full of dogs... but that’s probably much later into the future.

Josh: Working in a hospital or medical centre.

Congratulations to the class of 2023! We wish you the best of luck with your future adventures and hope many of you come back to share your story as alumni!
