Piera Wins Debater of the Year Award

We are thrilled to announce that Piera, Year 5 Brooklyn Park student has been awarded the prestigious title of "Debater of the Year" in the Year 5 division. This remarkable achievement is a testament to Piera's dedication, eloquence, and exemplary debating skills.

The Debater of the Year Awards are highly competitive and are designed to recognise the best debaters in each division based on their performance throughout the main Debating SA season.

Over the course of the season, Piera participated in a total of five interschool competitions, facing-off against 46 different teams, each composed of approximately five to six students. In each debate, she exhibited exceptional and consistent debating skills and garnered the highest scores, ultimately securing the top position in the Year 5 division.

We congratulate Piera for this remarkable accomplishment and look forward to witnessing her continued success in the world of debating.

Year 5 Team Triumphs at Tournament of Minds State Competition

We are thrilled to announce that our Year 5 South Plympton team has emerged as champions, securing the first-place position in the Language Literature category at the prestigious Tournament of Minds State Competition!

On Sunday, 10 September, the stage was set at Adelaide High School as two talented teams from Emmaus Christian College entered the battle of wits and creativity at the State Finals of the Tournament of Minds competition.

Over seven weeks of intensive preparation and practice, both our teams exhibited unwavering commitment and unleashed their creative potential as they tackled both the Long Term and Spontaneous challenges with flair. Their remarkable performances on the competition day showcased their talent and team work.

This victory in the State Finals has opened the door to the opportunity for our Year 5 South Plympton team. They have been selected to represent us on the national stage at La Trobe University, Melbourne, where they will compete in the National Tournament of Minds competition scheduled for 21 October.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedication of their mentors, and the support of our school community. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and excited to see them represent us at the national level.

Congratulations to our Year 5 South Plympton team on their well-deserved victory. Stay tuned for more updates as we cheer them on in their journey to Melbourne!

Launch Lessons at Brooklyn Park

During our Launch lessons in Term 3, we have been exploring Space. In ELC, we have been reading different stories and expanding their vocabulary. This topic has been quite broad! All the incredible elements that make up our world point us back to how big our God is. The students have been making new discoveries about our universe, including constellations, black holes and shooting stars. They have shown a particular interest in the movements of NASA and marvelling at the photos from the Hubble Space telescope and the James Webb telescope.

From Foundation to Year 2, this led us to learning about our planet earth - how earthquakes are formed, exploring all the different natural and man-made substances the earth is made out of. There have been rich discussions, questions and explanations that the students have really enjoyed. From Year 3 to 6, we have begun to learn about Morse Code, developed in the 1800s by Samuel Morse. We have started memorising it and also talking about all the ways we can communicate with others. It has been encouraging to witness their eagerness to explore these concepts in depth each week.
