Science

As the term comes to a close, we celebrate all the achievements of students in every science class as well as the superb teaching and experiences that our teachers offer to our students.

Year 9 students have been studying Ecology and can be seen developing food webs as they understand the biodiversity and interdependence of all species on each other for a healthy ecosystem.  Our Year 9 students also created some very impressive podcasts from an informative text on aspects of their previous topic, the mysterious universe, which showed their appreciation and understanding of the vastness and beauty of an ever expanding universe.

Year 7 students have also been studying a much smaller area of space, our very own solar system. They were asked to deliver a visual presentation as a real estate agent. They described the features of a place in the solar system and presented the possibilities for travel and habitation.

Year 8 students have been studying all the human body systems by dissecting the heart and exploring other organs. We might have some future health professionals who understand the intricate workings and interactions operating in our body to keep us healthy.

The last study for the Year 12 biology students was the study of the kidney, and so they were very interested in the dissection of the kidneys as the last lab experience at Marian.

Students from the Physics, Biology and Chemistry classes also had the opportunity to be involved in a two hour after school exam preparation for the HSC exams with experts from the University of Sydney. They found this very helpful and were given some great resources, exam tips and an excellent overview of each course.

Year 10 students  have some big decisions to make as they finish their education as junior students and look to their future and the Year 11 Biology, Chemistry and Physics students can enjoy their break after a strong finish of their preliminary study.

And so, as we start our well deserved term break, we wish our Year 12 students every success as they show what they know and understand after their study of science. They will be working hard in the lead up to the final exams. We will always keep them in our prayers.

On behalf of the Science team, I wish you all a relaxed and happy term break!

Best wishes
