Assembly

Next week we will be holding a Morris Assembly for all Primary students.  As The Farrall Centre is unavailable the assembly will take place outside in the grounds and will commence at 2.15pm on Monday afternoon. We welcome families to attend. 

The Friends’ School Term 4, 2023 Vacation Care Bookings

A reminder that we are once again offering a Vacation Care program for The Friends’ School Kindergarten to Year 6 students during the Term 4 holiday period. Please find our upcoming Vacation Care Program here running from Thursday 14 December 2023 to Wednesday 31 January 2024  (closed 23 December 2023 - 7 January 2024). Kinder - Year 2 Sports Day

Friday 24 November

The Kinder to Year 2 Sports Day will be held on Friday 24 November on the school's bottom green from 12.00pm - 1.30pm. Parents and families are welcome to attend. Children are to wear their sports uniform and ensure they have their hat and a water bottle for the event. A program has been emailed to parents. Any further questions please contact Allyce Winton.

Year 3 Excursion to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

Friday 24 November 

As part of our unit 'Sharing the planet’ students will visit the memorial plaques around Legacy Park and the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. We will walk from school to the Gardens via the Domain. Students will learn about the significance of the plaques and the trees on the Domain. In the Botanical Gardens children will use their mapping skills to visit significant trees and areas. We will visit Pete’s Patch and look at the vegetables growing and discover the importance of the site for Tasmania’s first people. We will leave school at 10.00am and return by 3.00pm.  Children will need their hat, water bottle, lunch and some snacks. We will take sunscreen but if your child has a certain one please pack this for your child to use. Children will pack ventolin or epipen in their bags. Other medications that will be used on the day please advise us beforehand. 

Prep Art Exhibition

Tuesday 28 November

We are very pleased to share with families an invitation to the Prep Art Exhibition 2023. The Exhibition will take place in The Farrall Centre on Tuesday 28 November from 2.15pm - 3.15pm, we hope you are able to join us.

Year 6 Places of Worship Excursions

Tuesday 28 November 

To enrich and deepen our inquiry into Who we are: beliefs and values, Year 6 will walk to the Hobart Synagogue and St David’s Cathedral on Tuesday 28 November.  Students can wear their sports uniform and are required to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and hat. No lunch orders on this day. Please apply adequate sunscreen before school and pack a raincoat as required. If a parent would like to support this excursion, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Year 2 Excursion to Waterworks Reserve

Wednesday 29 November

On Wednesday 29 November, Year 2 will be heading to Waterworks Reserve by bus with their class teachers and Outdoor Education Teacher, Lauren Stranger. Students will be exploring animal adaptations, primarily through the study of animal scatt. We will be returning back to school at the end of the school day. Students need to come dressed in their sports uniform, including a warm jacket, waterproof raincoat and sun hut. They should bring a big lunch and lots of snacks, and a full water bottle.  No lunch orders on this day. Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

Year 1 Excursion to Fossil Cove and Tinderbox

Thursday 30 November

On Thursday 30 November, Year 1 will be embarking upon a Coastal Day to Fossil Cove and Tinderbox Reserve. Class teachers and Lauren Stranger, the Outdoor Education teacher, will accompany us on the excursion. This program provides students with the opportunity to search for, identify, ask questions and think about what fossils can tell us about the past. Students are required to wear their sports uniform and sturdy shoes suitable for walking a reasonable distance. They are also to bring a backpack containing: morning tea and lunch, rain jacket, water bottle, a warm jumper, sun hat and a change of socks. Personal medication should already be in the classroom at school and will be carried by the teachers. Please ensure your child’s Operoo profiles are up to date and sunscreen is applied before they arrive at school.

Year 2 Musical

Friday 1 December

Year 2 students will be performing ‘The Rock Pool!’ on Friday 1 December at 2.15pm. Everyone has been working hard to learn their lines, songs and actions and we can’t wait to share this with our Year 2 families and Morris classmates. The performance will be in The Farrall Centre. 

Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge

Friday 1 December

A reminder to those Year 5/6 students entered in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge that it is to be held on Friday 1 December at Bellerive Beach. Students involved will travel by bus to and from the venue. More information will come home in due course. Any enquiries please contact Lisa DiVenuto.

Moving On Day and Year 7 Orientation Day

Monday 4 December

Moving On Day is on Monday 4 December. The purpose of this day is to establish positive relationships between next year’s teachers and classmates before the long holiday. It is also a wonderful opportunity to introduce our new students into the school. Students will spend time with their teacher for next year and get to know their new classmates. 

 

Families will receive a note at the end of this day communicating their child/ children’s classroom teacher for 2024. We have taken great care to ensure that the 2024 class groups support all the children’s best interests and learning needs. We value your support in making this a positive transition.

 

For Year 6 students, Year 7 Orientation Session 1 will also be held on Monday 4 December 2023 from 8.45am until 3.00pm. Students are not expected to wear school uniform on this day, however, they should wear casual clothes that are suitable for some easy and fun physical activities. Year 6 students do not come to Morris on this day but will meet in the Clemes Foyer with other new Year 7 students between 8.45am and 9.00am. Students should bring their own lunch and a drink bottle on this day.  Please note that pick-up at the end of the day for students being collected by car is in Boa Vista Road.

Year 2 Parents’ Tour of Walpole

Tuesday 5 December

On Tuesday 5 December, current Year 2 parents are invited for an informal tour of Walpole. The Year 2 children will take you on a tour between 8.45am and 9.30am. Please go to the Year 2 classroom first so that your child’s attendance can be recorded. You are not expected to stay for the entire duration, it is an opportunity for you to become familiar with the upcoming change of location. Please contact Deputy Head (Year 2 - 6), Wendy Crow if you have any further questions about learning in Year 3. 

Year 5 Art Exhibition

Tuesday 5 December

Year 5 students have been inquiring into 'How we express ourselves' under the central idea, 'Creative thinking unlocks a world of possibilities.' We have explored how and why artists convey messages or provoke thinking around concepts, issues and personal perspectives. Students have created a variety of artworks to express themselves using an array of media.

 

We invite you to explore the messages they are sharing through their artworks on Tuesday 5 December from 2.30 - 3.15pm in the Bark Chip area. If it is raining, the exhibition will take place in the Year 5 classrooms and Walpole Deck.

Year 5 - Outdoor Education Excursion - Coningham Beach

Friday 8 December

On Friday 8 December, as part of our Outdoor Education program, all Year 5 students will be visiting Coningham Beach. Our focus is on working together, connecting with the natural environment, decision making and initiative. The students will work through various activities including a walk, rock hop, initiative activities and photography. Outdoor Education teacher Lauren Stranger will be accompanying the students along with the classroom teachers and other support staff. Students will need to wear suitable clothing suitable for the weather conditions (consider good sun protection). Pack spare shorts or trousers, a warm jumper (e.g fleece, not cotton), sun hat, sun cream, waterproof raincoat, lunch, snacks and water bottle. We will be leaving school at 9.00am and returning at about 3.00pm. 

Year 3 - Outdoor Education Excursion and Sleepover

Thursday 7 - Friday 8 December

The Year 3 School Sleepover will take place from Thursday 7 December until Friday 8 December in The Farrall Centre at school. 

 

On Thursday 7 December we will be travelling by bus to explore the coastline of the Alum Cliffs Kingston. Students should come prepared with sturdy walking shoes, and in their sports uniform - choosing appropriate clothing for all conditions (including a warm jumper). 

 

They will also need a raincoat and broad brimmed sun hat, a big lunch with lots of snacks, a full water bottle and any required medication (labelled and handed to the teachers). Students are advised to put sunscreen on prior to arriving at school, and bring extra to reapply. 

 

The students will also participate in a day trip on Friday 8 December to the New Town Rivulet. Detailed information about the sleepover will be emailed to parents in the Operoo permission form. Please respond to the Operoo form by Thursday 30 November. If you have any questions please contact your child’s class teacher: Jayne Martin and  Charlie Edgar.
