Living with Strength and Kindliness

This Sunday is the second week of Advent. Advent, meaning waiting in Latin, gives us an opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed and prepare for new beginnings with Christmas and the birth of Jesus.

The second week of Advent is characterised by the theme of peace, reminding us to reflect on the importance of tranquility amidst the bustling holiday preparations. I find this week a gentle but timely reminder to pause, take a deep breath, and cherish the peaceful moments that surround us—the laughter of friends, the warmth of family gatherings, and the joy of shared experiences and final preparations for school to finish. At St Joseph’s we have been reflecting on the season of advent and what it means to us both individually and collectively.

We gathered on the last day of school with a liturgy led by Father Novie. This was a wonderful time of celebration as we reflected on all that has been achieved and all we were blessed to have experienced this year. Father Novie talked to us about the angel who was the messenger of the birth of Jesus and how we have the opportunity to be messengers to those around us. In this busy time of celebrations it can be easy to forget to pause and connect with those around us in our community and families who may find this time challenging.

As we approach the end of the school term and the beginning of the Christmas holidays, we are invited to take the spirit of Advent and Christmas into our daily lives.  Let's seek opportunities to extend acts of kindness and spread joy within our families and community. Whether it's through simple gestures of support or engaging in charitable activities, let's strive to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Over the past few weeks we have collected for our advent hampers. These hampers will be distributed to local aid organisations and groups in our community who are in need this holiday period and I would like to thank all those who have contributed.

Finally, as we step into the Christmas and holiday season I wish you all a wonderful and joyous lead-up to the Christmas holidays filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
