Forest school
Our final sessions of Forest School for the year have been nourishing and meaningful. Some of the seniors have been perfecting the art of pancake making on the gas stove, so expect some fancy food next time you head off camping with your family! Some of the middles explored the dam following the rain, making observations of the changes habitat and learning how to measure water temperature. Some of the juniors had raised seedlings in the greenhouses and were excited to plant them into the vegie beds to attract beneficial insects. The foundies continued to weave their magic, engaging in such wonderful explorations in the natural environment.
I say ‘some students’ when I describe activities because all offerings at Forest School are optional. Each child or group of children is free to choose how they engage with the natural environment during the Forest School program. During our yarning circle, activities will be discussed and I will support all children with resources or supervision to engage the way they want to. Some adult lead activities may include fire management, cooking, whittling, dam visits, gas stove use; some activities may require an adult nearby (eg. rope swings); and many activities are completely child-lead with no adult required.
This week I have been very busy with my hands in pancake batter, popcorn kernels and garden beds so I haven’t taken many photos. Please ask your child how he or she participated in the Forest School program!
Cheers, Sarah.
