Year 5/6 Team News

Hello Year 5/6 families, 

Literacy

It is a mad dash to the finish line to get our Buddy Books completed to give to our Prep/Grade 1 buddies next week. There is some frantic typing, drawing and painting going on, but we can already tell that the finished product is going to make us proud. A reminder that all library and book club books need to be returned to school this week.

Maths

As part of our Learning Contract program, students are taking the opportunity to explore maths in a way that is interesting to them. Many are choosing to work on the ‘Mega Mall’ project, which requires measurement, timetabling and pricing, whilst others are using revision tasks to work on particular mathematical skills.

Inquiry

Having completed all of our core learning this term, students are choosing an Inquiry project to complete as part of their Learning Contracts. We’re excited to see how they choose to demonstrate their learning about Australia’s migration history.

End-of-Year Fun

A reminder to parents that we have many events and excursions coming up over the term. Please stay tuned to Compass for event details. A good night’s sleep and plenty of healthy, fortifying snacks will help our Willy Kids to maintain their energy through all of the excitement of this term.

Traditionally the students in 5/6 participate in a fun KK within our classes at the end of the school year – this is completely optional. Should students choose to participate in KK, they will be required to purchase a gift of up to $10. This gift will be exchanged on the final day of school. We ask all presents to be brought to school by no later than December the 18th (Monday of the last week). 

If your child does not wish to participate in KK, can you please indicate this to your child’s classroom teacher by Monday the 11th of December.

• 18 December: Picnic Day - students to bring food to share with friends,   KK presents due at school
• 19 December: Beach Day - see Compass for details, payment and to give permission
• 20 December: Last day of term, dismissal from the basketball court, 1:30pm
