Performing Arts News
Students have been working hard to use the skills they have learned this semester to create and share their performing art! It has been a joy watching students express themselves and be proud of what they have achieved this semester.
Prep students have been combining their music, drama and dance skills to create and share short performances for each other and their classroom teacher. Their focus was to face the audience when performing live or to face the camera when recording a video of their performance. Students have been so excited to watch the editing process and to share their videos with their classroom teacher. What a great way to celebrate our learning in 2023!
Grade 1 and 2 students have been using tuned and untuned percussion instruments to learn simple songs in groups. Their focus was listening to their classmates while they practised and performed to successfully play ‘in time’ with each other. Students have also had opportunities to have a go at writing their own music by choosing pitches on a glockenspiel to create and play a melody. Some students added words to their songs too!
Grade 3 and 4 students have been learning about composing music. They have planned and edited an original song as a class, choosing notes from the C Pentatonic scale to add to their rhythm which creates a melody. Students were also encouraged to think about how to communicate ideas and feelings through music, by either changing pitches in the melody or by choosing lyrics that fit the rhythm of their song.
Grade 5 and 6 students have been practising their composing and arranging skills. Students have chosen rhythms and pitches for their original song, as well as exploring different ways of expressing themselves through music, such as choosing certain instruments to create a desired effect. In small groups, students have planned, rehearsed and performed their ideas to each other.
Keep singing and dancing,
