Grade 6 Community News
Hello Year 6 Families, Guardians and Carers,
We cannot believe that it is already Week 9 of Term 4, the time has absolutely flown by!
The Grade 6’s have been working extremely hard within their classrooms to develop their reading, writing and maths skills! It has been amazing to see each child trying their hardest within all the areas of learning.
Reading: In Reading the students are currently diving into the French Revolution and the era of Romanticism. This study provides a fantastic opportunity for them to grasp the significant historical shifts and how these moments influenced art and creativity. It's an exciting journey, connecting history with artistic expression and understanding the profound impact of historical events on the arts.
Vocabulary: Students have been noticing their weekly vocabulary words as they come up in books they read and in real life conversations. It is great to see this connection being made, and the growth in their understanding of the definitions of our vocabulary words. Currently our words are related to our The Happiest Refugee, and have proven to be very beneficial in helping students grasp this concept.

Writing:
In our Writing sessions, we're fully engaged in our much-anticipated scrapbook project. Our students have composed a Grade Three-inspired newspaper report and envisioned themselves as Prime Minister in Grade Four. Grade Five involved heartfelt letters to our past selves, friends, or teachers, chronicling the wonderful Grade Five experiences. Those who've added pictures, certificates, and creative touches have truly brought their scrapbooks to life. At the moment, we're working on creating "I Have a Dream" poems for Grade Six.
Maths:
In Maths, during weeks 7 and 8, the students have been learning about Mass and Capacity linking to the mathematical strand of Measurement. Students have learnt how to convert between formal units of measurement in mass, length and capacity and have applied these skills and knowledge to build and design their own water park called ‘Splash World.’ For the remainder of the year, the children have selected individual areas for revision and are working on these topics.
