A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the MLC on Heights Campus
Students in the Middle Learning Centre have settled extremely well into their learning environment and have adapted seamlessly to the established routines and procedures. They have demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and engagement in their learning, creating a positive and productive classroom atmosphere. Their ability to follow expectations has contributed to a smooth transition into the school year, allowing for a focused and supportive learning environment.
In Reading, students selected 'just right books' to support their independent reading and comprehension growth. They were introduced to a variety of comprehension strategies and engaged in a deep exploration of how making connections and summarising texts enhance their understanding.
In Mathematics, students worked on naming and recording numbers up to the millions, strengthening their knowledge of place value and the base ten system. Their confidence in working with large numbers and understanding number structures has significantly developed. In Writing, students explored the structure of narratives and persuasive texts, refining their use of language devices and persuasive techniques to create engaging and compelling pieces.
In Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), students investigated the deep connection between First Nations peoples and the land on which we learn. Each grade collaborated to create a personalised Acknowledgement of Country, which will be shared at an upcoming assembly. This process fostered a greater appreciation for Indigenous perspectives and reinforced the importance of respect and inclusion within our school community.
Once again, students enthusiastically celebrated Harmony Day, embracing the spirit of inclusivity and cultural diversity. Throughout the day, they participated in a variety of activities that highlighted the importance of respect, belonging, and understanding. Dressed in orange or traditional cultural attire, they proudly showcased their heritage and learned about the rich backgrounds of their classmates. From storytelling and music and art projects the students demonstrated kindness and appreciation for one another. It was a wonderful celebration that reinforced the values of unity and acceptance within our school community.
The teachers have been incredibly proud of the students' attitudes and work ethic throughout this term. Their dedication and enthusiasm has been clear, and we truly appreciate their efforts. As we reflect on their growth, we look forward to seeing how they will continue to develop both academically and personally.
