Student Voice :                         Springvale Campus

These past few weeks have been extremely busy with NAPLAN underway, meeting new teachers and our SLC students signing up for the sports they will compete in for interschool sports! The best event that we have celebrated has to be Harmony Day—a day to celebrate the country's cultural diversity and promote respect and inclusion for all Australians.

Recently we had a new staff member joining our Springvale Rise community! Zach Lane, also known as Mr Lane. Mr Lane is someone who loves to do hurdles and sprinting sports! Did you know that he is also on the National hurdles team? How cool is that? He has had some set backs over his athletics career, however this did not stop him from chasing his dreams! He definitely demosntrated resilience! We are also so happy to announce that Mr Lane and Mr Kullar will be running a Wednesday morning athletics training club for all the students that will be participating in athletics!

As you already may know, Harmony Day was one of our highlights this week! Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, belonging and celebrating the diversity of peoples' cultures from all around the world! We were so amazed by the stunning, sparkling and colourful outfits everyone was wearing! We were also so grateful for all the parents that popped in to join us for this event, especially knowing that there were some parents who were fasting.

Lately our Year 3s and 5s have been ABSOLUTELY amazing, they have constantly been practising NAPLAN questions during Maths, Reading and Writing sessions so they could be successful during NAPLAN! Something else that has been amazing is how focussed our Year 5 students have been during NAPLAN as they tried not to distract themselves and their friends, working the answers out carefully, and last but not least, taking their time. Our SLC Teachers have also been supportive of our Year 3 and Year 5 friends, continuously reminding them to eat a lot, get lots of sleep and letting our Year 3s and 5s have a big stretch before they begin with their NAPLAN questions!

In Maths the SLC students have been focusing on place value. The Year 5's target is to rename seven-digit numbers (millions). The Year 6's have been trying to achieve their targets, which is renaming decimal fractions! The SLC have been smashing their goals! The quality of their book work and the growth everyone has made during their lessons is insane! Everyone, especially the Year 5's have been outstanding! Some of them have even achieved the Year 6 target! However, the Year 6's are also doing a fantastic job, we are so happy about the growth they are making!

The SLC has started to do research around many Asian countries, such as Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, China and a lot more! We are trying to learn new things about countries in Asia, such as their geographical location, languages spoken, landmarks, traditional clothing, food and celebrations. We can't wait to present all the information we find to our peers and teachers.

As you can see, the last few weeks of school have been astounding! We can’t wait to see what the last two weeks of term will bring.
