Promoting Health & Wellbeing at SRPS
At our school, we are committed to promoting the health and well-being of our students. As part of this every Wednesday morning, our school's oval comes alive with the enthusiasm of students participating in Running Club. With upbeat music setting the pace, students eagerly run or walk around the oval, tallying their laps and recording their progress each session. Running club was created in response to student request and is just one way we are promoting student voice at SRPS. The fun-filled atmosphere motivates our young runners to set personal goals and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.
To further support the promotion of health and well-being, we are encouraging students to drink only water during school hours. This initiative aims to reduce the consumption of sugary beverages, which are linked to health issues and reduce students' concentration levels. This will also mininimise the amount of drink containers that are brought to school and therefore reduce the level of rubbish they generate. We appreciate your support in providing your children with a drink bottle filled with water each day, reinforcing healthy habits and a cleaner environment.
Harmony Across the School
As part of our Harmony Day celebrations, students across the school have been enjoying activities that celebrate cultural diversity and promote inter-cultural understandings. Foundation Learning Centre (FLC) students have been sharing their family traditions and cultures with each other, finding connections with new friends and building their oral language skills. Guided by Mem Fox's famous picture story book Whoever You Are they have also been exploring the idea of the world as a global family.
Junior Learning Centre (JLC) students have been exploring the concept of harmony through art. They have been listening to music and analysing photographs of cultural events from across the globe. From their analysis students have derived that everyone has a unique and important role to play in contributing to the community.
The Middle Learning Centre (MLC) students have been exploring their own cultures and those of others, creating items to wear in Thursday's parade, and discussing cultural similarities and differences. Senior Learning Centre (SLC) students however, have been researching the cultural characteristics and geographical locations of Asian countries, examining Australia's connections within the Asia region.
These activities not only enrich our students' understanding of different cultures but also foster a sense of unity and respect within our school community. By engaging in these diverse learning experiences, students are developing empathy and appreciation for the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our world. We are proud of their enthusiasm and commitment to embracing diversity, and we loved celebrating Harmony Day together.
