Grade 2/3

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you all enjoyed your break. Well done to those lucky Easter Egg Raffle winners. I hope you didn't eat all that chocolate at once!

We have had a busy start to the term. It has been great to hear all about students fun holiday adventures. Everyone has come back to class fired up and ready to learn!

Last Friday, students came to school with Crazy Hair! It was amazing to see such creative hair dos!

Literacy

This term, students are learning how to structure and write Information Reports. Our Biology unit is helping to connect our learning across subjects. In Reading, we’ve been building fluency using a text about koalas, while in Science, students have been developing their understanding of how living things grow and change. All of this is leading towards an exciting goal—writing their own independent information report on an animal of their choice.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been exploring unit fractions and learning how to represent them on number lines. They have worked collaboratively in small groups, using concrete materials to help consolidate their understanding of these concepts. We’ve also introduced multiplication fluency, with a focus on the 0, 1, 2 and 10 times tables. In addition, students continue to build their automatic recall of basic addition facts, including doubles and near doubles, strengthening their number sense and mental maths strategies.
