Owl Babies

We have started our unit of study on the beautiful picture story book 'Owl Babies'. We have been learning facts about owls. Did you know that owls have 14 bones in their necks which is why they can turn their heads up to 270 degrees!  We only have 7 bones in our necks! They have asymmetrical ears and excellent night vision. They have specially adapted feathers with serrated edges that muffle their wing beats allowing them to fly silently!

This term we will focus on facts and information and look at a lot of non-fiction texts. We will learn about the features of a non-fiction book - contents page, index, glossary, photos, labels. We will write our own Information Report about a chosen animal to tie into our Science unit of Biological Science. We will focus on Australian animals and discuss their features and habitats.

Playdough Animals

On Friday mornings we do 'Finger Gym' - exercises with playdough to develop our fine motor skills, eye-hand co-ordination, dexterity, and finger strength. Finger Gym activities improve our overall hand strength which is crucial for efficient pencil control and letter formation. Last week at the end of the session we made our own animals to link with our Biological Science topic.

Zoey - jelly fish and spider
Ayla - snail
Oliver - octopus
Westly - elephant
Ollie - chameleon
