LOTE

The LOTE Greek Department at Oakleigh Grammar had an exciting and enriching Term 1, filled with activities that celebrated the Greek language and culture. Our primary students participated in engaging learning experiences as part of the Speak Greek in March initiative and Greek Week / Greek Independence Day celebrations.

The initiative Speak Greek in March encouraged students to immerse themselves in the Greek language through interactive activities designed to enhance their speaking skills.  Students from Prep to Year took part in role plays focusing on greetings and everyday conversations, helping them build confidence in using the Greek language.  Students from Year 3 to Year 6 created dialogues and performed role plays in class, allowing them to practice their language skills in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

In the lead-up to Greek Independence Day, students explored various aspects of Greek history and culture through creative and educational activities such as learning about the Greek flag, focusing on the Annunciation of Virgin Mary, exploring traditional Greek national costumes and their historical significance, conducting research on National poet Dionysios Solomos and his famous work “the Hymn to Liberty” and having an Greek dancing workshop.

These activities not only deepened students’ understanding of Greek language and culture but also reinforced the importance of preserving and celebrating our Hellenic heritage.  The LOTE Greek Department is proud of our students’ enthusiasm and engagement, and we look forward to more exciting learning experiences throughout the year!
