Well Done Year 5 and 6 Cricketers

On Wednesday the 26th of March, our year 5 and 6 cricketers competed in round 1 of SAPSASA cricket at Victoria Park. Magill School competed in two games across the day, with the first against Marryatville Primary and the second against East Adelaide.

Game one saw us make a fast start against Marryatville. Pavara and Amogh set the tone early, retiring on 33 and 31 respectively before Reyansh and Livinu added another 18 and 10 with a final total of 4/111. Now it was time for the bowlers to do their thing, and that they did. All of the bowlers chipped in, and some excellent fielding restricted Marryatville to 88 runs, giving us a 23 run win. That win sent us through to a match-up against East Adelaide, which was a de ja vu of the year before. Magill won the toss and elected to bowl. Three run outs in the first two overs got us off to a fast start, and at the tenth over mark, East Adelaide were 4/32. A big last ten overs for East Adelaide saw them finish on 101, setting us 102 for victory. Captain Pavara made another great start opening the batting, making 26 runs. However, Magill couldn’t get the scoreboard ticking over as fast as they needed to. Medhansh (13 runs) and Kalama (22 runs) gave it their best with a fantastic partnership but unfortunately, we ended up with the same result as last year, finishing 22 runs short.

Unfortunately, we didn’t secure wins in both matches, as a result we won’t be advancing to the next round. However, I couldn’t be prouder of the boys—not just for their performance on the day, but for the way they supported each other and carried themselves with sportsmanship against other schools.

It was wonderful to see so many parents and families come out to support our students. A huge thank you to Sean Cotter for scoring both matches and helping to warm up the boys, your efforts made a big difference. These days wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of volunteers like Sean and the unwavering support of our families, so thank you all!
