Pictured above are Nic (L) and Gus (R), who recently celebrated their 13th birthday with their boarding friends. The MODs like to make a fuss for student birthdays, and Nic and Gus had chocolate mud cakes to celebrate. We know everybody loves birthday cake. Unfortunately, not everybody loves mud cake, and some students prefer ice-cream cake. This has been duly noted, and we will change things in the future! If you finished your homework early to celebrate a friend’s birthday, which would you prefer – mud cake or ice cream cake?
When the weather is great, why be inside? Tricky trivia has taken on a different angle this week with a paper plane competition. Boarders, and adolescents in general are super competitive and the simple plane is a good platform to create some friendly competition. All in good spirits, the boarders made their planes and lined up in front of the refectory to fly. Some very clever boarders did strategically place themselves so as to get the maximum distance which was all in the rules! Congratulations to Clive who was able to take it out for the Speirs House. Well done boarders and congrat’s Clive.
Georgia Williams is one of the most optimistic boarders’ I’ve met. She constantly smiling and has a ‘give it a go’ attitude to anything and everything. From netball, athletics, and swimming, Georgia has already shown to be a leader through example. She is also one tough cookie. Georgia resides from the plains of Penola and beyond, and when you cannot attend swimming training what else do you do to train at home? Well of course, you jump in the drains and train for the ICCESS which were held later held in Melbourne. That is commitment to the next level! Well done Georgia and congratulations on being Boarder of the Week.
During the weekend our activities continue to gain momentum and energy. Last weekend Pauline ran a junk journal for our young girls. Some very proud journals indeed! Having the girls engaged in creation and design is healthy for their mental and social wellbeing. Certainly, I’m all for Pauline’s activities that have the boarders’ off devices and involved in something that can be an expressive art form. Well done girls.
