Year Six

Dream and Lead Conference
In Week Nine, a group of Year Six students got the exciting opportunity to go to the Dream and Lead Conference in the city. We rode the 59 tram to Flinders Street Station and took a short 10 Minute walk across the Yarra River to arrive at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in South Wharf.
We sat on the balcony along with many other schools that came to the conference. Liam O’Connell started the day with a speech, and he got us super excited for the rest of the day. Many people such as Wil Massara, the founder of Youth Leadership Academy Australia (YLAA), shared many great quotes and ideas with us throughout the day to help us be better leaders. This day was also exciting for the teachers, Miss Ioannou was very excited to see Nick Pierce, the founder of HoMie, a clothing brand she likes.
The day was broken up into multiple sessions, and we heard from five speakers. These speakers were:
Liam O'Connell from YLAA
Bonnie Ryan-Rowe from YLAA
Nick Pierce, the founder of HoMie
Wil Massara, the founder of YLAA
Lucy Thomas, the founder of Project Rockit
Nick Pierce and Liam O’Connell were our favourite speakers of the day due to their inspiring speeches and motivating quotes. The day was broken up with a great game of networking bingo, where we had the opportunity to meet students from schools around Victoria. We fondly remember the winner (who was lucky enough to take home some YLAA merch). One of us got the amazing opportunity to get interviewed by Liam O’Connell in front of thousands of people. Everyone was screaming his name so they could get interviewed.
We had a great time and we definitely recommend the experience to the current Year Fives. We are excited to put many of the great ideas from the conference into action throughout the year. A big thanks to Miss Ioannou, Mr Smith and Mrs Barletta for organising for us to go to this event.
