Can you believe we are reaching the end of Term 1? It has flown by! We have had such fun and busy term and would like to congratulate all the students on all they have achieved. It has been a BIG term, and we encourage all students to enjoy a restful break before we hit the ground running on Term 2!
We have thoroughly enjoyed the presentations this week from all students, in particular the creative survival resources. We have also enjoyed getting to the exciting end of our class novel, Now! Feel free to ask the students about their opinions!
We encourage students to continue reading over the holidays and keep up their timestables practise to keep up the good habits they have begun this term.
Student Voice: This week we hear from Yoie (6E):
YEAR 5/6 NEWS REPORT:
In 5/6, all of the students have been working really hard, so let’s have a look at what they’ve been doing in the past fortnight. Well for starters, the year fives have been doing NAPLAN. They have been doing a series of thought-provoking tests on Math, Writing, Grammar and Reading. During this time, the year 6 students were working on a ‘passion’ project. This project could be based on their own interests.
Every Friday our school takes part in either multiple inter-school sport competitions, or for those not playing, participate in an alternative program. The sports that students can participate in are, Basketball, T-Ball, Volleyball, Hotshots (tennis) and Cricket.
Here are the scores from last week when we played against Williamstown North Primary School:
Basketball | Cricket | Volleyball | Hotshots | T-ball |
Mixed WPS:25 WNPS:16 Girls WPS:12 WNPS:8 | Mixed WPS:183 WPNS:118 Girls WPS:60 WNPS:0 | Mixed WPS:2 WNPS:0 Girls WPS:0 WNPS:2 | Mixed WPS:10 WNPS:2 Girls WPS:2 WNPS:10 | Mixed WPS:3 WNPS:14 Girls WPS:10 WNPS:0 |
Also, in the alternatives program they do many different sports at school, last week one group was doing Croquet and the other group doing sailing.
In other breaking news, we have the 5x7! Now most of you are probably wondering what the 5x7 is? Well, the 5x7 is an art competition, and this year it is based around the legendary Yayoi Kusama and her spectacular patterned artwork.
Both year levels also are working on their inquiry project. This term is about natural disasters. Each student had to design a survival tool and presentation on how you can survive their chosen natural disaster, to share to their class.
More 5/6 news reports coming!

What's happening in the Classroom when we return in TERM 2:
Writing: We will begin with a grammar focus and holiday recount writing. We will also incorporate a lead into our new inquiry unit, starting with what Sovereign Hill and how it came to be an important part of our nation's history.
Reading: We will be making predictions and evaluating the first two chapter of our new class novel, We Are Wolves, by Katrina Nannestad. In addition to this, we will be engaging in our reciprocal reading roles and targeted reading groups.
Inquiry: The term's inquiry is History based looking at key questions around how Australia has come to be what it is today. It will begin with some key student-led research about what is Sovereign Hill and why we are going there in Week 2.
Maths: To begin the term, we will be revising number concepts of place value, rounding and the four operations. There will be strong connections to decimal value and financial maths and a lead into our upcoming units on measurement.
Willy Kids/Respectful Relationships: This term's focus is on our second pillar: Learning. Our first topic is Willy Kids are Ready to Learn. We will focus on what it takes to be prepared for learning and how we can set ourselves up for success. In Respectful Relationships, we will be turning our focus on how to problem solve in a positive way.
Interschool Sport: This will begin in Week 1 on Thursday (due to Friday being ANZAC day).
Round 1: Away @ Willy North (Thursday morning)
Round 2: Away @ St Mary’s
