Prep Team News

with Caitlin & Georgia

Hello Prep families,

It’s hard to believe that we are already at the end of Term One! What a busy and exciting time it has been for all of us. It has been wonderful to see the Prep students grow; not only with their learning, but also socially and emotionally. Each of them has made an outstanding start to school and we feel so lucky to have gotten to know them better over the past Term. They should be incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished so far.

Some of the highlights of the Term for our students have been:

  • Wellbeing Excursion
  • Meeting a new Little Learners character each week
  • Building friendships with our classmates and 5/6 buddies

Toilet Etiquette - reminder

We have still been having lots of discussions with the Preps about appropriate behaviour in the toilets. Students have been reminded that the toilets are not for playing and are an area where it is important to respect each others’ privacy. If you could please support us by having a discussion with your child at home about how they should behave in the toilets, it would be much appreciated.  Emphasising that the students should not be locking the doors and crawling underneath, or going into a cubicle with another student.

A Note about the Yard - reminder

To continue to encourage independence and resilience amongst our Preps we ask that parents please refrain from visiting the Prep playground at recess and lunch times. Please be conscious that for some students this can be quite distressing as they wonder where their own parents are when their friends get visits from their parents. Moreover, as there are a range of different teachers on Yard Duty in the Prep Area, not all teachers are able to recognise Prep parents, and will need to ask you to leave as this is our school policy for anyone standing near the school gates. If you have any messages or items to pass on to your child throughout the day, please call through to the office and it will be passed on to your child’s classroom teacher.

Holiday Homework

It has been a big first term and the Prep students have learnt so many new things. Whilst it is important for your child to rest and recover over the break, we encourage you to try and incorporate the skills they have learnt into some fun activities. Some ways in which you can do this are:

  • Singing and listening to the Little Learners songs for the characters we have met so far
  • Talking about the initial sound in common words
  • Practising writing their names with a capital at the start and lowercase for the rest of the letters
  • Going on a word hunt for some heart words: the, my, me, I
  • Reading regularly
  • Completing any unfinished homework from Term One
  • Reviewing activities in your child’s book bag
  • Noticing numbers around your house/community
  • Playing board games that involve using a dice
