K-12 WELLBEING

Over the past year, we at St. Luke’s have developed and implemented specific programs and groups designed to cater to the diverse needs of our students. Recognising that student wellbeing is foundational to both academic success and personal development, we have intentionally structured our initiatives to address key areas of social, emotional, and leadership growth.

Our approach aligns with research highlighting the importance of targeted wellbeing programs in fostering student engagement, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Studies have consistently shown that when schools create inclusive and responsive wellbeing structures, students demonstrate improved emotional regulation, stronger peer relationships, and greater overall school satisfaction (Durlak et al., 2011; Taylor et al., 2017).

At St. Luke’s, we are committed to ensuring that our wellbeing framework is dynamic and responsive to the evolving needs of our students. Currently, we offer:

  • Active Achievers (School of Foundations): A program designed to support younger students in developing social-emotional skills through structured sports and activity-based learning. Research indicates that movement-based interventions enhance self-regulation and social skills in primary-aged students, particularly those needing additional behavioral support (Diamond & Ling, 2019).
  • Alpha Club (School of Leadership): Focused on fostering leadership, collaboration, and confidence in students, this program builds critical life skills that research identifies as essential for future success (OECD, 2021). By providing leadership opportunities, students gain a greater sense of agency and responsibility within their school community.
  • Top Blokes (School of Entrepreneurs): A targeted initiative that has supported boys in developing emotional intelligence, resilience, and respectful relationships. With adolescent mental health concerns on the rise, interventions like these play a crucial role in addressing issues such as emotional regulation, peer conflict, and self-perception (Patton et al., 2017).

At St. Luke’s, we recognise that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work when it comes to student wellbeing. By designing our programs in response to real student needs, we are actively creating an environment where all students feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. Our commitment remains steadfast: the wellbeing and safety of our students are at the core of everything we do.

🎶🎤 A Big Turnout for Year 12 Trivia Lunchtime! 🎤🎶

Our first Year 12 Trivia Lunchtime was a huge success, with an awesome turnout and an electrifying music-themed challenge! 🎵🎸👏

This fantastic initiative by our Student House Leaders brought the cohort together, sparked some friendly competition, and ignited House spirit like never before! 🔥💙💛❤️💚

Well done to everyone who participated—stay tuned for the next round! Who will take the crown next time? 👀🏆

Peer Companions

This week students explore the idea that how they view themselves and their challenges, can affect the outcomes of these situations. Students discuss helpful ways to view challenges. They consider keeping things in perspective, separating emotions and ascertaining facts to accurately identify the problem to be addressed. Your child may, at times, feel overwhelmed by the expectations of Year 6l. Encourage them to make a list or write a plan to help identify smaller tasks to make a large workload more manageable. It is important they feel supported while being encouraged to independently prioritise their responsibilities.

📢 Pi Day Challenge! 🥧✨

On Friday, March 14th (3/14), we celebrated Pi Day by putting our students’ memory skills to the test! 🎉

Students competed in a challenge to recall and write as many digits of π (pi) as possible—without a single mistake! They had 30 seconds to write down the correct digits, earning 1 point per correct number for their House.

🏆 The standout achievement of the day? A mind-blowing 50 correct digits in just 30 seconds! 🤯 Unbelievable!

Great effort from all who participated—what an amazing way to celebrate the infinite number that keeps mathematicians on their toes! 🔢🎯

🚀✈️ Paper Planes Take Flight for House Points! ✈️🚀

Students across the school are soaring into action in our Paper Plane Competition, earning points for their House with every metre their plane flies! Over the next few weeks, students from Kindy to Year 12 will put their paper-folding and flying skills to the test, aiming for the longest distance.

Last week, we saw Einstein House take up the challenge—hence the sea of green paper planes filling the air! 🌿💚 Who will take the lead next? Stay tuned as more students step up to represent their House and aim for victory!

Which House will fly the farthest? 🏆✈️

House Poster Competition

Students from K-12 came together at recess to start designing posters that represent their House and showcase their House spirit. 🏆💙❤️💛💚 We had a great turnout for our first session, and students will have another chance to finish their posters next Tuesday before the best designs are selected in a few weeks!
