Year 7 News

Learning Behaviour Super Stars
Congratulations to the below students who received a hot chip lunch for receiving a GPA above 3.8 in our first LBU for the year!
A special acknowledgement to Ellie William Cooney, Hayley Ardran and Isla Godfrey who all received a perfect 4.0 GPA.
I’d also like to recognise that while we had a HUGE number of students achieve above average, the year 7 cohort overall have shown sensational learning behaviours with 107 students achieving a GPA over 3.0!

Year 7 Camp
Russell White (Camp Coordinator)
The Year 7 Camp is from May 20th to May 23rd. As usual we are going to Camp Coolamatong. This camp is a fantastic site on the banks of Lake Victoria near Paynesville. The camp will be great opportunity for the students to develop new friendships, as well as to try new activities.
Some primary schools have recently started going to Camp Coolamatong, so your child may have already been. However, we attempt to do different activities such as combat archery, sailing, extended canoe and bike trips, and I am currently in discussion with Camp Coolamatong to see what else we can include, that will be a new experience for the students.
The camp is now open for parental consent in Compass. It costs $500 which I know is a lot, but you can use any ‘School Savings Bonus’ funds, as well as CSEF funds if eligible. These combined are more than enough to cover the cost of the camp. Also, there are payment plans available to assist.
I need to know definite numbers by the end of term, so please give consent (without payment) in Compass as soon as possible.
If you need any information about the camp, you can contact myself or Erin Gruis at school and if you need any help with payment plans, please contact the office.
School Sport
It’s been a busy term with school sport and events such as College Athletics, Volleyball, and Cricket. The Kurnai Aspiring athletes went to the SUMMIT on Monday and competed against each other and themselves in an obstacle course which pushed their boundaries and challenged them to overcome their fears. Students excitedly recounted wombat holes and going under barbed wire as challenges they faced over the course.
NAPLAN
This term we had NAPLAN and whilst the practice session highlighted our technical issues, the students absolutely exceeded all expectations confidently and with dedication in attempting the Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Language Convention tests online.
Common Assessment Task’s
Students are currently completing their Term 1 CAT’s. Common Assessment Tasks are not a pass/fail test, but they are a task that will enable students to showcase their learning on the topic they have studied. Year 7’s will be publishing narratives for their CAT after looking at narratives this term in English, in science they completed a table showing the tides and moon phases. Students are encouraged to try their hardest in the CAT, but they are not conducted under traditional testing conditions.
Foodbank Food Fight
On Friday 28th of March Year 7’s are participating in the Foodbank Food Fight. The Peer Support Leaders have planned the event, including the activities and challenges students will participate in on the day.
Miss Gruis and Mr Malcolmson will be slimed due to successfully exceeding the $1000 fundraising goal.
Currently we have raised $1280 which will be going towards the charity that supports our breakfast club (Tuesday mornings) and provides all the yummy food available in the advocates.
Parent Teacher Conversations
Booking for Parent Teacher Conversations are done through COMPASS, if you need support with the process please contact the front office. These conversations are a wonderful opportunity to catch up with your child’s teachers and discuss their learning behaviour updates, general academic achievement and check on their progress. If you would like to catch up with your child’s teacher but are unable to attend the parent teacher conversations, please feel free to reach out via email, or phone to schedule a time to speak.
