Principal's Report

As always there has been a wide range of events happening across the school over the last couple of weeks. Including our Community Day, NAPLAN testing, Open Night, Learning Conferences and College Tours.

Community Day

Community Day was organised and coordinated by our SRC and Student Leadership Team and focused on recognising and celebrating the diversity and range of cultures that we have in within our school community here at Brentwood. Students did a fantastic job of coordinating a wide range of activities during lunchtime.

Well done to all the students involved in the running of the day, as well as Michael Gekas (Director of Student Leadership).

This event represented how effective collaboration can result in providing a range of positive experiences for our students and the wider school community.

NAPLAN

Over the last two weeks, our Year 7 and 9 students have undertaken their NAPLAN testing online. I would like to acknowledge the effort that our students put into this testing.

I would also like to thank all of our staff who were involved in administering the tests and supporting our students in working through each test to the best of their ability.

A special mention to Danielle Mortimer (Director of Teaching and Learning) for organising and coordinating NAPLAN over the last two weeks.

Whilst individualised results to students and parents won’t be released for some time, some initial whole school data will be provided for teachers in the coming months so they can individualise and target the needs to individuals and small groups of students in their classes.

School Sports Awards

I’m very proud to share that last week, Brentwood were awarded three awards at the School Sport Victoria Awards!

A big congratulations to Jordan Gilbert (class of 2024) who won a Sports Award for Athletics. We’re so very proud of Jordan. He really embodies our school values and is a role model to our students not only for his sporting achievements, but also his music and academic pursuits.

Kim Nash also won the Outstanding Teacher Contribution Award. Everyone who has worked with Kim would know how deserving she is of this recognition! Kim has been such a key driver of our school sport program for many years. Congratulations Kim!

Brentwood Secondary College has won the Secondary School of the Year Award. This is testament to the dedication of all the staff involved in our sports program - particularly our Directors of Sport of the years such as Kim NASH, Sarah Swilks, Edin Selimovic, Adam Pirrie and currently Jason Louey and George Bouios. To be recognised as the Secondary School of the Year is an incredible achievement and one for us all to be proud of.

Well done!

Learning Conferences

Last week we ran the first face-to-face learning conferences since the start of lockdown back in 2020. We thank all staff, parents and students for their engagement and support with our Learning Conferences. It was fantastic to see parents and students together at the school. We hope that this not only helped to connect parents with our school more but also enabled a greater quality of conversation about each student's progress.

Last Day of Term:

Friday the April 4th the final day of Term 1.

A reminder that students will be dismissed at 2.30pm. Students will return for the first day of Term 2 on Tuesday April 22nd

We wish all of our students and families a safe and happy school holiday period.
