Year 6

Term 2, 2025

We hope you had an enjoyable break and are coming back from holidays refreshed and ready for a busy term ahead.

Term 1 Recap by Maeve and Lacey

Last term we have been on some incredible learning adventures, both around the globe in geography and into the world of decimals!  We had so much fun creating and designing our very own country using our Maths and English knowledge to make a variety of graphs and laws. In literacy one of the books we read was a book called Waves. Waves is a book about the waves of migration coming to Australia throughout time. While we were reading this text, we realised how lucky we are to live in a safe and diverse country.

We also participated in interschool sports and we had a brilliant time playing against other schools. We showed good sportsmanship and all teams came out winning at least one game.

We were all counting down the days to meet our buddies. When the day finally came we were all bubbling with excitement and loved playing and getting to know our buddies and can’t wait to do more fun activities with them in Term 2.

Camp reflection by Issy and Maitea

Last week the Year 5s and 6s went to Alexandra Adventure Resort for camp. Everybody was very excited. The activities were canoeing, orienteering, beach volleyball, flying fox, gaga ball, low ropes and high ropes. On the first night we all went on a night walk and roasted marshmallows around a flaming campfire. On the last night of camp we watched The Wild Robot. Everything was such a blast, and even the food we had was amazing. In conclusion we had so much fun. Thank you to all the teachers and helpers for making this camp so memorable.

Transition to Year 7

This term begins the process of the students transition to Year 7. You will have received your transition pack with information for you to fill out. This information is due back to school by 9th May. All additional information can be found on Compass.

Term topic

This term will be a STEAM orientated term. The students will be learning about energy, and in particular renewable energy sources. Students will learn about the consequences of relying on fossil fuels and what can be used as an alternative energy source. This knowledge will form the basis for the term STEAM project which will require students to design and build an aquatic mode of transport that generates movement via a renewable energy source.

Literacy and Numeracy

As always, key literacy and numeracy concepts will be embedded throughout our Inquiry. In Mathematics students will continue to reinforce their number knowledge by adding to their fractions knowledge and the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. Students will also learning about the topics of angles, area and perimeter, and shape. These mathematical concepts will also be utilised in our STEAM project.

In Literacy, students will continue to be involved in the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop processes. Students will revisit the use of Reader’s Notebooks to track thinking while actively reading, and the daily use of a Writer’s Notebook to ignite creativity, individuality, and voice and choice in writing. We will focus on persuasive and non fiction writing genres, and continue to learn about the 6+1 traits in more detail. The traits are: Voice, Ideas, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Organisation, Conventions, and Presentation.
