On Monday, March 10th, our school had the pleasure of welcoming a group of students and some teachers from Kashiwa City, Japan (sister city of Camden). The visiting students lead 7G and Year 9 Japanese students in a presentation about their hometown and culture, and also played games and made origami with our students.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity for students to broaden their global perspectives and foster international connections.
Get ready for an unforgettable musical experience!
EZ Japanese will be visiting our school on Tuesday 8th April for a special Taiko drumming incursion. Year 7 students will enjoy a dynamic performance, with some lucky volunteers getting the chance to try their hand at drumming. Meanwhile, Year 9 and 10 students will take part in an interactive workshop, where they’ll learn about the techniques and energy behind this traditional Japanese art form. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to experience the power of Taiko firsthand!
This incursion draws upon the skills year 7 have been developing in their recent African Drumming unit of work.
On Tuesday 4th March, Year 9, 11, and 12 Visual Arts students embarked on an exciting excursion to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Australian Museum. Departing from Macarthur Station, students travelled by train to explore ARTEXPRESS—an inspiring showcase of exemplary HSC artworks—along with the fascinating Machu Picchu exhibition and the captivating natural history displays at the Australian Museum.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to analyse outstanding student artworks, engage with historical and cultural exhibits, and complete research for a drawing task focused on the museum’s animal displays. For some, this was their first time visiting a major art gallery, making the experience even more special. The students were enthusiastic, well-behaved, and deeply engaged with the artworks and exhibits, gaining valuable inspiration for their own creative practice.
It was a fantastic day of artistic discovery, and we look forward to more opportunities to explore the arts beyond the classroom!
Our talented Year 8 students have been diving into the world of self-portraiture, taking inspiration from the iconic Frida Kahlo. In this exciting project, students are exploring identity and personal symbolism by creating self-portraits alongside their pet or spirit animal.
As part of their development work, students practiced essential drawing techniques, including a guided tutorial on how to draw a labradoodle. This helped refine their skills in texture, proportion, and expression, ensuring their final pieces truly capture their unique connection with their chosen animal.
We can’t wait to see these expressive and imaginative portraits come to life.
