Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on
Although it was a short one, there was plenty of action happening at St Brigid's last week! Tuesday was a student free day whilst our staff attended a Curriculum Planning day.
On Thursday we were very fortunate to have elite AFL umpires John Howorth and Simon Blight visit a group of our students as part of the AFL Umpires Roadshow. John and Simon shared their journey into umpiring, the importance of dedication and consistency in training, and gave some insight into their daily lives as an umpire. It was great for our students and those aspiring to become an elite athlete one day to hear their stories and advice.
The Year 12 and 11 students were given the opportunity to participate in a presentation by Mikala Todd from Deakin University.
Also last week, Year 8 PE hit the courts as part of their tennis unit, Year 7 Drama had lots of fun, Year 8/9 Art continued printmaking and Year 8/9 Foods got into some Easter baking!
We are very proud of St Brigid's College Year 9 student, Ella Maree, who is an ambassador for The Fight Is Real, an initiative dedicated to fighting the stigma against mental health and creating ways to start conversations that can be difficult.
Last week, Ella organised a fundraiser here at school selling Zooper Doopers where all money raised was donated to the Black Dog Institute. It was great to have so many students and staff support the student-led fundraiser.
Recently, St Brigid's College Year 8 student, Amy Bolwell, competed in the Australian Clay Target Association National Championships in Wagga Wagga! The competition was a fantastic opportunity for Amy to challenge herself and get to know others competing in the sport. There were over 500 people competing across the week! She had over 700 shots and came home with a few C grade sweeps, coming 2nd and 3rd on them, as well as achieving many personal bests! Congratulations Amy, what an awesome experience!
