ART NEWS

This term in Art 5/6 students have been busy creating 3D 'Curious Creatures' out of recycled objects. Their work has been inspired by Australian artist and illustrator, Shaun Tan who wrote and illustrated many children's books including The Lost Thing, Tales from the Inner City, The Arrival and Tales from Outer Suburbia.

They have painted and decorated their 'curious creatures' in steampunk style, and they will be displayed outside the Art room.

STEM NEWS

Last week we had our new CSIRO volunteer visit 6A and 5B. Conor is a structural engineer and he shared the work he has done on bridges, building and playgrounds around Melbourne. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and then complete a fun challenge. The challenge was to build the tallest marshmallow structure in 10 minutes.

This week we had Robogals back to work with Years 3 to 6. Robogals was founded with the goal of balancing the existing gender disparity in engineering. They aim to inspire, engage and empower young students into STEM fields.

SPANISH NEWS

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we conclude the first term, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support.

In Spanish class, students have explored various facets of language and culture, from learning about different types of weather and popular places like Spanish-speaking countries, their flags, to mastering language essentials like verbs for constructing sentences in Spanish.

Foundation students have particularly enjoyed this song, and they can listen to it at home: [Song Link](https://youtu.be/VUm8PVT0GX8?si=vtKM8Xubs5yEWbcn).

To encourage continued learning at home, we've compiled a collection of images and posters from this term's lessons.

In addition, to further immerse ourselves in Spanish culture, I'm thrilled to share an authentic Paella recipe. Delve into the vibrant flavours of Spain with our step-by-step video tutorial available [here](https://youtu.be/yFif6Vvt4zc).

We'd love to see your learning and culinary adventures! Please share pictures with us at [Antonio.cantocastello@education.vic.gov.au].

Wishing you and your family a fantastic holiday season!

Hasta pronto, see you soon!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

Important Dates: Cross Country Trials Monday Week 2 Term 2

5/6 Winter Playoffs and house sports:

This year during 5/6 sport the students have been given the opportunity to select a sport to play either soccer, hockey or netball. Students have made their choice and are part of the squad for their chosen sport. In these sessions students practise drills for skill development and play modified games to improve their game sense. Behaviour, teamwork, and skill development are the three areas teachers have been focusing on.

From these squads students will be chosen to represent SMPPS at the winter play off in term 2. The teams will play a number of games against other schools in the area. The students that make the team will get a compass notification with further details. Selection will be based on behaviour, ability, and team spirit.

Students who do not make the SMPPS representative team will stay at school and continue to play friendly house sports in their chosen sport.

Bye for now!

As you may be aware I am taking some time this year to be closer to home and with my family. I will mis the camaraderie amongst our community, the students and the amazing staff I work with every day.

Wishing everyone a restful Easter Break with your families.
