ZOO EXCURSION

Last week the Year 1 students went on an adventure to the Melbourne Zoo for our AGP excursion. We had a wonderful day looking at all of the different animals and couldn’t have asked for better weather! We had a Keeper Talk with the Wild Scientists who taught us all about the Giant Tortoise and then we got to feed them! After that, students had time to also be Wild Scientists and explore the outdoor laboratory. What a great day!

YEAR 5/6 NEWS

TERM 1

The 5/6 students have been busy exploring our design brief of designing and building a model hydrogen-fuelled autonomous vehicle. We have asked lots of questions, gained new knowledge and understanding the process or problem.  Our students have faced a variety of challenges and this has given them the opportunity to think outside the box and be a problem solver. Our excursion to the Grand Prix gave us the opportunity to see how other primary school students approached the same challenge and they presented their learning within the official competition. A team from Cranbourne Primary School were awarded the winners, giving us inspiration for our own launch.

We also took advantage of Telstra's offer to come and teach our students about Cells on Wheels (COWs) expanding our students understanding in the area of technology and allowing them insight into what needs to be in place for everyone to have mobile/ internet reception at big events like the Grand Prix. We were able to see a COW in action at the Grand Prix and have Phil explain the technology in person. It was a great opportunity.

We celebrated Harmony Day and our diverse cultural backgrounds. We looked at the ways we contribute to our community, how we interact with each other, and how this plays an important part in the positive environment in which we learn, grow and live.

All 5/6 students practiced their tee ball skills in preparation for our Gala Day. We were very proud of our students and how they demonstrate excellent teamwork, the ability to support each other and enjoy a day of competing against other teams.

One of the biggest highlights have been connecting with our Prep Buddies. Our Year 5 students paired up with a Prep student to assist in the big transition to school and allow them to feel comfortable out in the playground. We have scheduled time every fortnight to meet with our buddies and have lots of fun together. The Preps, and year 5s are constantly gushing about their buddies and it has been so lovely to see such wonderful relationships form so quickly.

YEAR 2 NEWS

This term the Year 2s have been learning to write a personal narrative. Personal narratives focus in on one small event and use writing techniques such as "show, not tell" to draw in the reader and make their writing interesting. We have used mentor texts such as "Sally and the Limpet" by Simon James and "Jabari Jumps" by Gaia Cornwall to provide us with examples of what a good personal narrative looks and sounds like. Here are some of our amazing examples.

NEW YEARS EVE

I was waiting for ten minutes, then BANG! The colourful and bright lights came shooting out of the sky. My brother covered his ears. It was the best New Years Eve ever! I love fireworks. I felt pure joy in my heart.  By Amelie 2A

GOING SWIMMING

Splash! I jumped into the sparkling water below. I danced and dashed through the blue, clear water. Then mum yelled, "kids, it's time to go." "NOOOO!" I yelled, but then she counted to three. I got out of the pool and went home with the others. By Jody 2A

BULLETS vs LIGHTNING LORDS

When we started our match against the Bullets, I was jumping with joy. I ran to coach Brett. He sent me on court! We got a goal first. The score was 0 to 2. But we lost.  The final score was 10 to 4. By Waylun 2A

THE RIDE

Suddenly, their turn of the ride was over. It was my turn! I was bursting with excitement when I got in my seat. The man checked my back harness was secure. Finally, it was time. The ride started. It went up and down, up and down. It was fantastic. I never wanted it to end! When it did end, I hoped I would be able to ride again.  By Wilfred 2A.

THE WOBBLY TOOTH

My tooth was wobbly. I was at my favourite park. I was sitting on a bench when I had a crazy idea. I asked Billy if he could pull my tooth out. POP! Out it came. I tasted blood. By Eleanor M 2A

On Thursday the 21st of March, Year 2 went to Legoland for an excursion. We challenged ourselves with a Lego workshop, with the students building a tight rope course. This gave us the chance to practise our growth mindset skills, to problem solve and not give up. Afterwards, we explored Legoland and enjoyed the rides. Thank you to our parent helpers Bec, Wing, Stuart, Brett, Alana and Amanda for coming with us. Once we were back at school on Monday, we used this expereince for our next personal narrative.

LEGOLAND

I was bursting with excitement. We were going on a Legoland excursion. Joy was building up inside my tummy. I went on two rides, it was amazing. I wentn on a flat rollercoaster with fake lazer guns. I also went on a swing ride, the faste we peddled, the higher we went!  By Frankie 2A

OUR SCHOOL EXCURSION

Finally, we got to Legoland. My heart was beating. There was a spider ride, it went round and round. We had to pedal and the faster you pedalled, the higher you fly. Do you want to go to Legoland with your kids? By Missy 2A
