Interschool Chess Challenge 2024

At the beginning of March, players from McCarthy Catholic College took part in the Interschool Chess Challenge. This was the first inter school chess competition for the year and a chance for prospective representative players to show their skills.

The players were great ambassadors of the school, had a great time, learning from the experience. I look forward to seeing how the players develop during the year.

At the end of the day, the McCarthy Catholic College Chess club were able to ensure that the school would progress to the next round in the challenge.

The chess club runs every Friday, second break in J3. Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome.

Chaise Gwatkin engaged in a tense game against an opponent from the Armidale Secondary College.

Interesting Chess fact:

The longest official game of chess took place in 1989 and went for 20 hours and included 269 moves.
