Library Orientation for Year 7 2024
During the first weeks of this term all Year 7 HSIE classes have come into the library for a library orientation presentation and Book Scavenger Hunt to help them find the resources that we have in our library and that are available to them. This was a fun event enjoyed by both students and staff.
Reading for pleasure
Throughout 2024, in the McCarthy Catholic College Library we will continue to grow our “students as readers” culture. We assist students to choose their books, to talk about what they are reading and to use our request system to contribute to our collection building with books of interest to them. Our book displays change every two weeks.
This year in the library we will focus on the ways reading is special and important. We will be considering how reading is magic! As Stephen King wrote “Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
Reading books can transport the mind to other times and places, cause people to be curious about the world, and start conversations. Reading is Magic!
Year 8 HSIE and the Medieval World
This term each Year 8 HSIE class will spend a lesson in the library reading from the selection of fiction and non-fiction books we have available as well as enjoying the special displays.
Visit, relax and enjoy during breaks and study periods
The library is a great place for students to come and enjoy fun times before school and during break times. We have promotions and events throughout the year. Students can play board games every Monday and during break times on request.
Year 11 and 12 students are making effective use of the Senior Study and the main area of the library during their study periods which is pleasing to see as we have many resources to assist them in their studies.
We are looking forward to continuing to support our students in the library environment.
