S.T.E.A.M.

Science Technology Engineering Arts Maths

We have had a terrific start to the term with a great introduction to our Space unit in STEAM.

The Preps, Grade Ones and Grade Twos shared some stories including Astro Girl by Ken Wilson-Max about a little girl who loves everything about space and wants to be an astronaut when she grows up, and the Little Black Hole by Molly Webster about a little black hole that is confused about why her friends keep disappearing. We made some twinkly stars to decorate the STEAM room. The Preps and Grade Ones learned that there are volcanoes on other planets and moons and we conducted a volcano experiment. The Grade Twos Learned about the order of the planets in our solar system and created moving rocket pictures.

The Grade Threes and Fours shared some of the knowledge that they already have about space, for instance: Did you know that Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune all have lots of water on them and that the Earth is four times as wide as the moon? The Grade Threes made some colourful rocket pictures to decorate the STEAM room and the Grade Fours made terrific 3D rockets. We also conducted the much requested coke and mentos experiment. It was not overly successful and we decided that our coke had gone a bit flat because it had been knocked over and fizzed a bit upon opening. Some excellent Lego rockets were also made.

The Grade Fives completed their ‘Making ACPS even more awesome’ models that they started last term. Then they completed reflections on their work based on the design process and looked at how they could improve their work. The Grade Fives also shared some of their knowledge that they already have about space.

Lego Club:

A reminder that Lego Club is on at recess on Mondays in the STEAM room. Everyone is welcome.
