Principal's Report

Welcome Back

As we kick off Term Two, I'd like to extend a warm welcome back to all of our staff, students and families.

We commenced this term with a festive spirit, celebrating the vibrant Warrandyte Festival. It was my first festival and I thoroughly enjoyed every part of it, from watching our students at their market stalls or playing together at the many activities on offer, working alongside our families at our ACPS Kebab Stall and enjoying time there with my own family.

I started the weekend at the Kids Market on Friday night and was just so impressed with the effort so many of our students had gone to in producing their homemade goods to sell in their stalls. Having visited all of them, I can say the customer service was exceptional with beaming smiles and lovely manners, the goods were top quality and authentic Warrandyte pieces, and the prices were very reasonable. I look forward to using my candles, key chains, slime, hair braids, chopping boards, pencils and pictures that I have come away with.

Saturday morning’s Festival Parade was a perfect start to a full day of fun with a bustling procession down Yarra Street. All the floats looked amazing and reflected the hard work invested by the schools and community groups involved. A special shoutout goes to Mrs. Clarke for her tireless efforts in orchestrating our school float for the parade. The creativity and dedication she poured into this provided the perfect river themed foundation for all of our students and families to bring to life. I am told it was one of the largest turnouts we have had in terms of students, families and staff and I am so grateful to all of you that were able to attend. I am also understanding that many other families and students wanted to but needed a minor miracle to be in any more places at once with Saturday sport still in full swing.

By midday, the parade had ended and the main stage was waking up with brilliant performances from all of our local schools. The ACPS Shrek Cast certainly made their presence felt with a performance showcasing a compilation of songs from our upcoming Shrek The Musical Jr. production. It really was outstanding and as I watched it and filmed, I found myself with a shaking camera hand and watery eyes as I just felt so so proud of our kids, and not just their talent but what they have been able to achieve working so dedicatedly and unitedly as a team. A big thank you to Gavin Andrew, Sarah Bailey and the whole team of dedicated parents for their ongoing support and guidance of our students with our school production. If this is what we are seeing in April I cannot wait for Opening Night on June 21.

Enjoying a lively festival obviously requires nourishment, because after the parading and performing, all I could see was a constant stream of festival goers visiting the ACPS Kebab Stall which was being run by an incredibly committed and busy rotating group of parents all day long. From transport, to set up, to cooking, serving, and packing up, our parents worked tirelessly to ensure its success. Thank you so much to the volunteers that were able to take a significant amount of time out of their own festival experience to generously help out in running our stall. Though final numbers are still being crunched we have made an approximate profit of at least $5000 for your efforts. These funds will be invaluable in the continual upgrades across our wonderful school. Thank you.

As we reflect on these moments of collaboration and celebration from the festival, let us remember that the difference between a good school and a great school lies in its community. I am immensely grateful for the calibre of our ACPS community and the unwavering support you continue to provide to me and our school.

Here's to a fantastic Term Two filled with continued engagement, learning, growth, and connection.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Semester One Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 14th May between 2 - 7pm. To enable interviews to take place we will be running an alternative program for students attending school on this day. There will not be any normal timetabled classes but students will instead participate in a range of activities/sessions facilitated by our Specialist Teachers. This will involve students working in mixed year level groups across the day and will run from 9- 3:30pm like a normal school day.

Please note that Division Cross County will also be on this day between 12:30 - 2:30pm. Families wanting to attend Division Cross Country to watch their child compete will want to book a Parent Teacher Interview from 3:30pm onwards.
