The Kitchen Garden Cooking Experience

On Tuesday the 19th March, 3/4N got to cook with Leda and some parent helpers. First, we went to get some gloves. Then we looked at the recipe. I went to get half a cup of feta. Next Maddy got the spinach and we put it on to the puff pastry. We rolled it and then we cut it up into 12 pieces.  Then we let it cook for a bit and then we ate it. It was delicious! I loved it and I wished I could do that every day. It was great using the veggies from the Chatham Kitchen Garden.

In our garden this week, Year 3/4 students attended to our garden beds. We began with clearing out pots and beds, and planted a variety of herbs, spinach, sweet peas, honey peas and radishes. Two teepees were built with precision and wonderful team cooperation, as students took turns twinning and measuring.  Seeds were also collected from our lettuce and our silver beet plants.

We discussed the change of seasons and the change in our vegetables, looking at the different stages of their growth. Students in Mr Norris’ class made paper planting pots and planted the silver beet seeds, which will be carefully looked after by myself over the school holidays.

Once again, a huge thank you to Miranda and Jan who came along to share their knowledge and assist in our sessions. Also, thank you to Peter Manning who helps with our setting-up and packing-up each sesssion, and who has done a great job of drying and storing our gloves ready for next terms gardening.

Happy holidays!
