International Womens Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 and is one of the biggest days of the year.

Worldwide, groups and individuals unify to celebrate and support women's achievements. The theme for International Women's Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion

During last week, our students participated in activities that celebrated the achievements of Women in different fields.

Jesse B. and Year 1 students showing their colourful dot pictures. These were inspired by Japanese Artist Yayoi Kusama who demonstrated courage, resilience, and perseverance to follow her dreams of becoming an artist.

Paintings by Year 6 inspired by Indigenous Artist Queenie McKenzie who focused on engaging future generations in their culture and language. She successfully fought for land rights and was recognised as a ‘State Living Treasure’ by the government of Western Australia in the year of her death. McKenzie’s art remains among Australia’s most collectible.

In Prep STEM lessons, we looked at the story “Eat My Dust!” about two women Jean Robertson and Kathleen Howell who broke the land speed record for driving from Perth to Adelaide in 1928, a time when most women definitely did not drive. Students explored how to use magnets to make cars move without being touched.
