This term Year 7 have been learning about the 5C’s, and how they will use these skills throughout their project work this year. The 5C’s are: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and citizenship. From weeks 1-5, students created a digital portfolio showcasing their 5C skills and presented this portfolio to their class.
The second half of term saw them diving into class projects. 7H, 7N and 7R collaborated with their friends to design, create and host a range of board games. 7E decided to practice and present a range of physical 5C games to a Year 8 buddy class. And 7Y worked on a class play, performing for their families at the end of Week 10.
All classes have been exploring how they build respectful, inclusive relationships through their teamwork. We look forward to our film making topic next term.
In Year 8, we were tasked with creating a stall to answer the question: What was life like in the Medieval Era? For the first half of term, we all conducted research on the black plague and its effects on society. We also researched how society’s understanding of medicine improved after the plague, and what scientific discoveries were made about it afterward.
From Week 4 onwards, we were able to split into groups to choose our own Medieval topics including beauty, clothing, medicine, entertainment, food and agriculture. We spent the rest of the term constructing our stalls and building our understanding of our own topics for the Medieval Fair. A fun part of our process was being able to see other stalls in construction and help test out the activities. This included being painted on, testing out mini crossbows and conversing with other students to help them plan their stall. We hosted a Medieval Fair on Thursday Week 10 for parents and students from Gosford Public School.
