Year 8, 10, & 12 Advisers Report

Year 8 have had an outstanding finish to Term 1. As I walk through the playground, I see many smiling faces and many great friendships that are continuing from the foundations that have been laid.

Regarding the five key principles for our year group - Responsibility, Resilience, Gratitude, Empathy and Teamwork, we are working towards these incredibly well as we finish the term. All students have exhibited one or all of the actions labelled above at some point during the term, this is particularly pleasing, and they should be extremely proud of themselves. We are developing a very strong team environment, and it is something I am very proud of.

One of our most important days which showcased this team spirit, was the Medieval Fair in Week 10. The efforts and endeavour to implement amazing Medieval Fair stalls, was a pleasure to witness. All students displayed a strong knowledge base of information regarding their stall and the teamwork on display, was very pleasing to see.

Year 8 have had an extremely positive Term 1 and I look forward to building on these positives as we head into Term 2. We will be embarking on a team-based Welfare Day with the Love Bites organisation, and this is something I am really looking forward to.

I wish all students and their families a safe and restful holiday and I look forward to seeing you all after the break.

Year 10 Advisers

Congratulations to Year 12, who have reached the midpoint of their final year in school! It has been a hectic second half of the term with students balancing numerous assessment tasks, extracurricular commitments, and personal obligations. Throughout it all, they have shown great maturity and maintained their wonderful sense of humour.

One of the extracurricular highlights was the school disco in Week 6, organized by the SRC and supported by our School Captains, and Prefects. The event was a hit, with students displaying impressive dance moves and creative costumes, creating a night full of joy. Year 12 also managed a successful canteen to raise funds for the formal. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement.

On Friday of Week 9, we bid farewell to Fiona Lippert, our exchange student from Germany. Fiona joined Henry Kendall in 2023 and has been a valuable addition to Year 12 and the entire school community. We extend our best wishes and safe travels back home to Fiona. Fiona you will be missed by your friends, teachers, and year 12.

Also, on Friday of Week 9, Year 12 students and their teachers had a delightful pancake breakfast. Mrs Wearne prepared her magical pancake recipe along with her special caramel butter. These pancakes were a hit after a hectic term. Many thanks to Mrs Wearne.

During the holidays I encourage everyone to practice mindfulness. The practice of being mindful allows teens to cope with frustration when they are faced with something difficult in their lives. It can also be used when they need to focus their attention on something specific and not allow distractions to derail them. The more teens practice being mindful, the better they get at it.

April is known as Active April so below is some activities to try over the break.

Week 1

Monday: Have a day with less screen time and more movement.

  • Tuesday: Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge.
  • Wednesday: Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside.
  • Thursday: Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time.
  • Friday: Relax your body & mind with Yoga, Tai Chi or meditation.

Week 2

Monday: Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds.

  • Tuesday: Try a new online exercise or dance class.
  • Wednesday: Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often.
  • Thursday: Focus on ‘eating a rainbow” of multi-coloured vegetables today.
  • Friday: Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day.

Year 12 has been a whirlwind of activity, but also filled with fun and memorable moments! Enjoy the break, stay safe and be kind to yourself and others.
