Special Education Faculty
We have had a great first term in the Special Education Centre for 2024. Our new students are all settled in and enjoying all the things that encompass being enrolled in the Special Education Centre of a mainstream high school. Photos, vaccinations complete and many a special Celebration Assembly had. Year 7 Camp is about to finish as this newsletter is published and again many of our students are attending with their mainstream peers.
Week 9 saw our students attend a reward BBQ that was held along the waterfront at Long Jetty. As the sausages sizzled the student’s played games and mixed with their friends. Touch football was a favourite of the older students, whilst bowling games and the active playground were well used by others. Music with drinks and snacks were shared around in a picnic style outing. Thanks to CoastAbility for providing a bus and our volunteer driver to help get the students to the venue.
The work crew initiative that we commenced this term has been a great success with students learning valuable social skills and work skills whilst enjoying varied activities in the garden, the farm, outdoor education, industry and computer workshops. Many of our senior students have been enjoying TVET access courses one day per week at Gosford, Ourimah and Wyong TAFEs.
We also would like to thank local businesses, Cheeky Charlies Cafe at Karalta Road. Lasercraft Industries and Gumnuts Playgroup for supporting our students in our work placement program.
Lastly, CoastAbility are looking for anyone who might be interested in being a mini bus driver. If you know of anyone who may be interested, who holds a light rigid license, that may be able to assist for a few hours per week, please contact https://www.coastability.org.au/. Our programs require community participation in order to be viable.
