From the Principal

Congratulations to our swimmers who participated in the Huon and Channel Primary Swimming event this week. Our team won the overall point score. I also want to thank Mrs Keane for her amazing effort this term. She has coordinated the Primary and Secondary swimming carnivals and our Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival. I know our students have valued the opportunity to participate in these fun events.

This week, our Year 10 students have been off on camp in Fingal. Our Primary students enjoyed an action-packed Science show from the Questacon team and our Prep students have enjoyed their first excursion, to the Channel Museum. Our RISE students also prepared an amazing 36 meals and 35 packets of biscuits to donate to Kingborough Helping Hands, to be distributed by Loui's Van.  Information and photos from each of our term activities have been added to Schoolbox, to give families some more insight into our College activities.

At the end of this week, we take time to commemorate Easter. While the first thought for many children (and some adults) might be chocolate eggs and Hot Cross Buns, Good Friday marks a pivot moment in history, when Jesus went to the cross to bear the sins of the world. On Easter Sunday, we mark His triumph over the power of death as He rose from the tomb and spent 40 days with His followers.

It is a time when we can reflect on the significance of the words of John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he sent His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life.

As we explore the question, ‘What does love require?’ this year, as a staff team we have been exploring the different terms for love used in the bible. This week, we looked at the word agape.

‘Agape love is unconcerned with the self and concerned with the greatest good of another. Agape isn’t born just out of emotions, feelings, familiarity, or attraction but from the will and as a choice. Agape requires faithfulness, commitment, and sacrifice without expecting anything in return.’

Jesus is the example we look to as we understand such love. This is the kind of love that we, as a community, want to be able to share with others whenever and wherever we can.

I pray that our families have a safe and refreshing Easter break and that there will be opportunity to pause and consider the amazing gift we have received through Christ.
