Primary Cross Country

On Thursday 21 March we held the Primary Cross Country. What an exhilarating and community-spirited event it was!

Well done to all our students who showed incredible determination and sportsmanship.

Whether you sprinted across the finish line or paced yourself with perseverance, every single one of you is a true champion in our eyes.

Personal Bests for Primary State Swimmers

During Week 6, NCS's primary state swimming representatives made an almighty splash in the SOPAC pool!

Havana G, Elijah J-C and Will P all represented the South Coast Zone at the CSSA Primary State Swimming Championships in Sydney's Olympic swimming venue at Homebush. All three students achieved personal best times as they raised their efforts to new heights (or speeds!) in their races.

Havana swam almost 1 second faster in her 50m backstroke to finish in 50.66 seconds, Elijah swam his 50m breaststroke almost 5 seconds faster than his PB to finish in 1.02.14. Will swam close to 2 second PBs in his 50m freestyle finishing in 39.14 seconds and 55.58 seconds for his 50m butterfly.

We are so proud of NCS' primary representative swimmers this year and their tremendous efforts. Although they might have been nervous to compete in such an iconic arena and against such tough competition, they certainly weren't overwhelmed. Indeed, they rose (or were propelled!) to the occasion. Congratulations once again to Havana, Elijah and Will!

House Pride and Athleticism: Secondary Cross Country Carnival recap

The NCS Secondary Cross Country Carnival was held on Friday 24 March. After some unfavourable weather leading up to the event, the races were moved to the afternoon to allow the track to dry out and we were blessed with sunshine and mild running conditions. Students showcased their house pride through colourful outfits, engaging in friendly competition during their races and the House Fun Run/Well-being Walk. The event highlighted camaraderie and sportsmanship among students. Congratulations to all participants, whether avid runners or those who displayed perseverance.

Emily & Hamish head to the Australian Championships

Congratulations to Emily and Hamish McL who have qualified for the Australian Track and Field Championships to be held in Adelaide next month.

They both qualified for the 2000m steeplechase. Emily has been running the 2000m steeplechase for 4 years and Hamish 5 years. They chose this track event as it presented a challenge. They train 6 days a week and travel most weekends to compete in events, this is because there is no steeplechase track in Nowra. They travel mostly to Canberra, Sydney Olympic Park and Bankstown.

On Saturday 9 March, Emily and Hamish competed at the NSW Junior State Championships at which they both qualified for the Australian Track and Field Championships. To qualify for the Australian Championships you have to run your event under the qualifying time.

World's Greatest Shave for Leukaemia

At lunchtime Friday 22 March, Year 2 student, Adaline M took a brave step forward in the fight against leukaemia. In front of her peers, she boldly shaved her head to raise funds for Leukaemia Research.

Her courage and determination to make a difference is inspirational with her efforts raising over $5000 so far!

Well done Adaline! Thank you for reminding us of the power of compassion and the difference one person can make.

Super 8's Cricket

On Tuesday 12 March, the NCS Super 8’s cricket team travelled to Dapto for a cricket gala day.

The team won two out of three games, beating Shire Christian School and Cedars Christian College. The team did well, and Mr McLennan thought that the team did the best fielding that an NCS Super 8’s team has ever done. The players on the squad were Toby. G, Liam. M, Ethan. H, Noah. G, Will. P, Thomas. L, Sam. L, Nate. B, Will. A and Mohit. P.

Sam, our captain, couldn’t win a toss on the gala day to save his life, although he did get five wickets! He earned the nickname ‘finisher’ for successfully bowling the final overs. Thomas scored his first boundary in his Super 8’s career. He conceded two boundaries but took a wicket to even out the table. Ethan looked solid with the bat and bowled accurately. Nate took three wickets in one over! Toby and Thomas scored ten runs in a game, but both got ducks. Noah and Will. A did extremely well at keeping throughout the day. Mohit took his first wicket for NCS, and Liam made an amazing catch to remove Cedars' big hitter.

Overall, the day was a great success. In the end, three runs separated us from making the final. The team trained well in the lead-up, and this showed in their attitude, teamwork, and skill level.

Caleb's day at the CIS Secondary Boys 15&U Cricket

Year 9 student, Caleb McL. attended the CIS Secondary Boys 15&U Cricket Trials at Cricket Central (Sydney Olympic Park) on Wednesday 20 March.

This event aimed to select a NSW CIS Team for the 2024 NSW All Schools 15 & Under Boys Cricket Trials. Despite being among the younger participants, Caleb showcased commendable performance and enjoyed the opportunity. Although he didn't secure a spot in the team, the experience was enriching. Additionally, he had the chance to see some of the Australian players whilst at the trials.

French Film Festival

Stage 6 French Beginners had a big day last Friday. Meeting at school at 7am, with our lovely Art students, we had a combined trip to Sydney.

The French contingent got dropped off at the Moore Park Entertainment quarter to see the film, 'Frères du désert' (Princes of the Desert). This was a heart warming story of a boy and his dromedary. It is set in the Moroccan desert and the scenery is stunning. While we were watching the movie, the Art students were enjoying amazing art works at the Art Gallery of NSW.

We were then taken by bus to the Alliance Française and given a guided tour of the facility, one of 800 around the world and the biggest in Australia. Lots of language classes are offered for all ages and abilities. We were also given a 'goody bag' which included perfume, coffee, a keep cup and more!

Finally we walked to the Abbey Language Bookshop where students were able to browse a variety of French books, a number of which are translations from English (eg. Lord of the Rings, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). Some books were bought and students have already begun reading their new books in their new language! C'est fantastique! It was a great day with good company and well worth the visit.

CSSA Secondary Open Girls & Boys Football Trials

Elsie P. from Year 8 and Noah T. from Year 12 participated in the CSSA Secondary Open Girls and Boys Football Trials for CIS on Friday 15 March. The purpose of this event was to select the CSSA Secondary Open Girls and Boys Football Teams for the upcoming CIS Football Championships. Despite their commendable performance during the trials, sadly Elsie & Noah weren't chosen for the teams. Despite being the youngest among approximately 40 girls, most of whom were Seniors, Elsie demonstrated remarkable skill and even managed to score a goal!

NCS Secondary Walking Club

The NCS Secondary Walking Club meets each Tuesday lunchtime for some fun as well as getting our steps up! This social club enjoys walks around the oval and other parts of the school with some keen walkers suggesting themed rounds including dress ups, a cartwheel/ gymnastic round, and a round for all those dancing queens (and kings) featuring ABBA tunes! Come along and join the fun! All levels of fitness welcomed!
