Design Technologies 2024

2024 has seen our students design and create products using a wide variety of material:- wood, metal, plastics and textiles. In doing so they have explored a wide range of skills and processes including MIG welding, following a sewing pattern to make pyjama pants, programming LEGO EV3 Mindstorms and Vex IQ robotic kits, using the wood router, laser cutting materials to cut shapes or etch the surface as a component for a larger project, shaping steel and copper, laminating timber to make a larger piece, using embroidery stitches to to create an image, creating circuits on Arduino wiring kits and using the 3D printer to produce what they have drawn using CAD. They have learnt about the Double Diamond design process, the design elements and principles and the characteristics of the materials they were using. There has been many students engaged in their learning passing through the STEM Centre and many treasured projects been taken home. Its been a very productive year.
