Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

2024 Year 6 Graduates

On behalf of our school community, I'd like to wish our 2024 graduating students all the best in their new educational settings.

I look forward to hearing of their successes, achievements, adventures and tales as we continue to track them through their secondary years.

We are all very proud of you and are confident that your grounding throughout your years at MRK-6 will hold you in good order for the challenges and experiences ahead of you in the future. Best wishes for 2025!

Transitions

Congratulations to students for successfully transitioning into their new classrooms last week.

It was so very beneficial to provide an extra opportunity for our students to sit inside their new classrooms, engaging with their peers and friends, and where possible their new teacher.

Thank you to our families, who have positively promoted the new beginnings, opportunities and relationships that present in this process.

Presentation Evening

I'm looking forward to our school community gathering together tonight to reflect on the year that was, celebrate student achievement, scholarship recipients and congratulate 2025 student leaders.  We will enjoy Christmas carols together and perhaps even a visit from a very important man in red!

Families are welcome to picnic on the Medwell Oval from 5:00pm, and our Presentation Evening will commence at 6:00pm.

See you there!

Another Year of Learning concludes...

Congratulations to all students, families and staff for all that you have achieved throughout this year at school.

Thank you to our staff and families for your commitment to the growth and wellbeing of our students.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and festive season, full of fun, family and friends.

I can't wait to see you all refreshed and ready to go in 2025, commencing the school year on Monday February 3.

Departing Families

I'd like to extend a very special mention to all of our departing families.  Thank you for your partnership, contributions and input to MRK-6.

We wish you all the best in your varying transitions to new settings in 2025.

Staffing

We farewell Cameron Crilly, Troy Watson, Daisy Walker and Kyra Ives at the end of the school year. Mr C has been successfully appointed to a position at Mount Rowan Secondary College, where he will continue great connections with our students heading to Mount Rowan next year. Troy is heading to an ongoing teaching position at Pentland Primary School. Daisy Walker is heading off on a trip of a lifetime for the majority of 2025 and Kyra Ives has been appointed to a position at Yarrawonga P-12 College. Mr Mitchell has extended his teaching position at Little Bendigo Primary School for 2025. We wish them all the very best as they pursue further opportunities in their career.

Next year, we welcome Meredith Mayes into the Foundation Team and Kristie Hunt, returning from a teaching appointment in London, to join the Year 5/6 Team.

2025 Start of Year

Staff resume from Tuesday 28th January.

Assessment Days will be Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 January. On these days, students will attend their booked session for an individual assessment with their classroom teacher. The assessment session is 30 minutes in duration. Booking information will be provided in today's newsletter (see School News page for more information).

Friday January 31 is a Curriculum Day (Student-free Day).

Note: Foundation students do not attend each Wednesday for all of Term One.

Ball Sports 2025

In response to feedback from families following 2024 Ball Sports, we are informing our school community that 2025 Ball Sports will be held midway through Term Four next year. Some of the many reasons for this decision include:

  • consecutive days that families need to get time off work to spectate
  • the challenge for our Foundation students to attend both the Ball Sports and a full day of Athletics at Llanberris
  • The challenge for our PE teachers to ready students for both Athletics Day and ball Sports in Term One - particularly our junior students.

We look forward to enjoying yet another whole school event in Term Four as we engage in Ball Sports for 2025.

On behalf of all of the staff at Miners Rest K-6, I would like to wish all of our families a happy, safe and relaxing break over the summer break. We thank our school community sincerely for the support, involvement and connection throughout 2024.

With best wishes,

Kylie Nissen.
